“Could be good if...”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 25, 2014 via mobile

As we were staying in Aviemore and we had got the leaflet from the information center we decided to spend a day in Rothiemurchus. When we went to the Rothiemurchus center to know what activity we could do they just said that none were still available as they had to be booked in advance.

Even though the leaflet talks about wildlife watching the staff had just no idea what to suggest to see some wildlife. When we asked, as a consolation, to see highland cows they just said to walk randomly and hope.

Also they are very few suitable footpaths. It's all designed for car drivers only (which is a bit unexpected given the nature of the center...).

Conclusion: it could be good if you book in advance and have a car, but for us it was terrible. Lack of correct information. Staff unhelpful.

The team are very sorry that all the instructor led and guide accompanied outdoor activities you chose were already full for the day when you visited Rothiemurchus Centre. We understand how frustrating this is, so to avoid it happening all our promotion material makes clear that booking in advance is advised; to make sure this is possible we have at least 5 dedicated phone lines manned between 9.30 and 5.30 every day, we encourage booking 24/7 on our website and Rothiemurchus Centre staff work closely with instructors and guides to provide additional availability whenever this is possible. As Bike Hire and Treeezone are not instructor led they can take many more people and have more availability and they are right next to the Centre. We try really hard to make sure there is something for everyone here and we also recommend neighbouring activities and attractions.

There are also over 70 kilometres of stunning flat, off road, interconnected paths, that most visitors use. Our walks and biking maps are promoted in and available from Rothiemurchus Centre and all the routes can be started there; they show a choice of waymarked routes near habitats for many rare and iconic species such as Red Squirrels, There are feeding station for Crested tits and Red Squirrels at Loch an Eilein so there is a good chance of seeing them,we also have a daily Red Deer visit.experience.

The ancient fold of pedigree Highland Cattle are on our farmland, none of the staff can guarantee where they will be grazing and whether they will be able to be seen and it would not be responsible to recommend to visitors that they search for them on a working farm. Ranger led 'Hairy coo' visits and daily Land Rover Tours give visitors a great opportunity to get close to Highland Cattle and Red Deer safely. We have emphasised to all staff that they explain this clearly, so that visitors to this stunning family run working estate understand that although Highland Cattle and Red Deer cannot be always 'on show', they can see them on the Ranger led tours but we ask them to please book to avoid disappointment. You can usually see buzzards and Ospreys and Herons use Rothiemeurchus Fishery as their daily 'take away'.

The team here really care and are very committed to making sure that every visitor has a great time here - we are very sorry this was not your experience and hope that you will come back and have a great time here.

“river tubing”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 13, 2014

we've had the luck of a perfect weather for our river tubing experience. after a short drive and walk we had several passages of rapids and more relaxed sectors. The guides are very helpful, friendly and patient. they make pics that you can download for free after. It was an amazing experience.

“"The Old Ministers Guest House"”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 8, 2014

Beautifully presented & well located with lots of additional comforts usually not offered in similar accommodation. The breakfast was a treat as was the room it was served in! The owner went out of her way to make us feel comfortable, in fact above & beyond helping us with recommendations of similar standard places to stay for the remainder of our trip. Easy access to local activities. An excellent restaurant "One Pot Borrowed" almost next door so a walk home easy after a gorgeous meal.We could not recommend a stay more highly.

This is a great place for anyone to learn to fish, relax and also watch ospreys fishing. It is only 10 min walk from Aviemore.
