“Very comfortable and relaxing with great breakfasts!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 18, 2013

We've stayed a couple of times at Ravenscraig while visiting family who live in Aviemore and on both occasions we've received a very warm welcome from Jonathan. We've just returned from our second stay for two nights and enjoyed it as much, if not more, than our first!

Our first stay was in one of the chalets at the back of the property which are probably a little more spacious than one of the front bedrooms we stayed in this time around, but never-the-less, both rooms and en-suites are stylishly decorated, very comfortable, well equipped and very clean. The plus to staying in a room (No.5) at the front of the house is that you get a wonderful view of the Cairngorm Mountains - a real treat as the sun sets and also again when you open the blinds first thing in the morning!

Beds are not as firm as we'd prefer (personal preference - I'm sure many like a slightly softer mattress would have no problem at all), but still comfortable and the bedlinen is good quality which all goes a long way towards a very good night's sleep and a restful stay.

Breakfast offers a wide choice - great range of cereals, fresh fruit, fruit salad, white & wholemeal toast and Jonathan's homemade marmelade - try it, it's truly delicious! We also tried the delicious (and none greasy) full traditional Scottish breakfast (with plenty of flexibility to accomodate all diets and tastes!), Poached eggs (eggs not laid by the chickens in the outside pen, but we were confidently assured were local & free range) and smoked salmon on muffins (a lovely, tasty way to start the day!), alternatively the homemade porridge with berry fruit compote, seeds, honey or plain is also a real treat and will certainly set you up for a day's exploring and activity!

The lounge with it's open fire (lit in the colder months), cosy rugs, antique style furniture, plus welcoming resident cat Milly(!), make for a great place to relax and chill out either after breakfast or after a day's skiing, hiking or cycling!

Overall a very welcoming place to stay in a charming traditional style house which is very restful and relaxing with delicious breakfasts. You couldn't wish for anymore from a B&B!

Room Tip: Chalets offer a little more space. Room No.5 is a little smaller, but has great views of the Cairngo...

If this place had a restaurant and bar, it would be a hotel charging twice as much. It's a traditional Scottish house, right on the main street, close to everything one needs. Parking was easy. The staff are fun, helpful and attentive. The downstairs lounge is cosy, with traditional furniture and decorations, and a big log fire. Our twin, ensuite room was clean and modern, with stylish fixtures and fttings. The shower worked well as did the flat-screen TV. The cooked breakfast, served in the conservatory, was the best I'd ever tasted! Not cheap, for a B&B, but worth every penny.

Room Tip: We chose to stay in the house, as it was very quaint, rather than in a chalet to the rear.

We stayed at the Ravenscraig for 2 nights in late March 2013. Our bedroom was warm, clean and comfortable. The guest house was peaceful and relaxing and very good value for money. The breakfasts include really good bacon, sausages and black pudding! Easy walking distance from the shops etc. We will definitely stay here again when in Aviemore.

Room Tip: If you don't want to hear any traffic, ask for a rear facing room.

We stayed here for 3 nights in March 2013. As it was my husband, daughter and myself were given a chalet just at the back if the main guest house which had a double and single bed. Immediately we entered the chalet it felt cosy and homely. Plenty of room for our 3 yr old to play in and we all felt very comfortable. I was immediately impressed with hiw clean it all felt and this included the bathroom my daughter must have picked up on my comments as she followed me in to bathroom and said ooo it's posh!!! We had a very short walk to main guest house for breakfast each morning and the breakfast was lovely. The owners were fab with advice and help and couldn't do enough for you. Their staff were also lovely. An all round good team. The highlight for my daughter was when the owners let her feed their chickens every morning, she named them Sarah, Neville and Jemima. She has been quite concerned since we came home who will feed them now. We will just have to go back again to make sure they are!!! Would recommend this Guest House to anyone.

This is a brilliant little B&B run by such lovely people. I'm looking forward to returning for the breakfasts and the great shower! - just what you need before and after skiing! Great location- within walking distance of loads of great pubs and restaurants in Aviemore. A very comfortable stay indeed.

Stayed here for two nights in one of the chalet twin rooms with my brother. Room very comfortable, clean and warm with possibly the best shower I have ever had! Owner Richard very helpful and hospitable. Breakfast delicious and I loved that they had both Marmite and Vegemite on offer. Lots of nice little touches like the toiletries in the bathroom, fluffy towels and quality coffee in the rooms. Recommended.
