“Should be on the list of things to do in this area.”

We came to the Mountain to show the children snow for the first time. The trip up the Funicular Railway was exciting and the snow was plentiful. It was -5oC at the top and there were plenty people skiing. We threw snow at eachother and then had hot chocolate in the cafe. We would have booked some skiing lessons and had a go but the lessons were for 4 hours and we didn't have enough time to fit it in. The visibilty was poor at the top but great from the half way point. I imagine it has marvellous views from there during summer and spring. We would go again if we were in area in the future.

“It's not Canada and if you get that then its awesome”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 16, 2013

This is Scottish Skiing at its best, when the weather is great (as it was just before Christmas and on Boxing Day) then it is awesome with great snow and loads of ski area on and off piste. When the weather is not so great (New Year) then it will really help to improve your skiing and test your commitment to your sport to the full.

The team do a fantastic job of offering whatever they can and as long as you except you are in Scotland not Canada then its brilliant!

“Brilliant fun!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 13, 2013

We visited Cairngorm Mountain on the morning of 12th January. In Aviemore the temperature was -6, it will have been a lot colder on the mountain! There was a fair bit of snow and lots of winter sports enthusiasts clattering about on their ski/board boots.

We wrapped up warm and made our way to the ticket office for the funicular railway, only a handful of people in front of us in the queue. We were agreed that it wasn't overly expensive and were quite happy to pay almost £20 for our two tickets.

The ride up to the Ptarmigan was great fun. It doesn't take long but was really enjoyable, watching the people skiing and snowboarding past us down the mountain.

At the top we bought a couple of bits in the gift shop. It is worth popping into the shop at the base too as we found they sold some different things and bought some bits from the other shop before we left. We also went round the exhibition which was very interesting and informative. A couple of the exhibits didn't seem to be lit up or working as they should be, but it didn't detract too much from our enjoyment of it.

We thought the viewing platform would be a bit of a waste of time as the cloud was quite low and there was no view but, as we stepped onto the platform to take a photo of ourselves in the cloud and cold wind, the clouds lifted for a few minutes to reveal the most breathtaking views. It certainly has the Wow factor! We could have stayed there all day looking at the panorama, but the cold got a bit too much for us.

Back inside to warm up and the Ptarmigan restaurant was very busy so we headed back down the mountain again. Even more fun going down hill, especially if you stand at the front!

We popped into the cafe at the base and I had a beautiful thick tomato soup with a roll and a mug of hot chocolate with marshmallows and cream. The sofas by the fire were already taken, but it would be lovely to sit there with a hot chocolate after a walk down the mountain.

I would highly recommend a visit to Cairngorm mountain, a trip that must be experienced!
