“Breathtaking Views in the Snow”
Reviewed October 31, 2012

How blessed were we to take the Caingorm Funicula Railway up to the top of the Cairngorms on a lovely snowy morning. Only one word to describe our visit............. Breathtaking.

You have to have hot chocolate in the restaurant.

“Windy Ridge and scramble to the top of Cairn Gorm”
Reviewed October 29, 2012

We took the windy ridge route up CairnGorm mountain. It seemed steeper but shorter than the other main route and less busy. Once at the restaurant we were advised to make our scramble to the top before getting too comfortable by a member of staff on hand to greet us. I'm certainly glad we didnt get too comfortable or we may have changed our minds about making it to the summit!

The views from the summit were breathtaking. It was glorious to look out over the rest of the range. We took the funicular train down which was fine but a bit on the slow side and it had annoying commentary. Definately not as exciting as the gondolas at the Ben Nevis Range but a great way to reward your legs after walking to the summit and ideal for those with babies / elderly who can still enjoy the views from the visitor centre / restaurant as there is the option to get the funicular both directions. A great day out. No charge unless you opt to use the funicular.

“Visited on a bad day...”
Reviewed October 28, 2012 via mobile

I visited last Thursday morning and travelled on the funicular to the ptarmigan and back. Sadly, the weather was poor and you couldn't see beyond the tracks- the funicular was also having probelems so it was running at a reduced frequency and slower. The shop and museum on top were interesting. The ptarmigan restaurant was poor- the legendary hot chocolate was out of a machine and very weak, and all the cake plates were dirty. The girl serving was rude and uninterested, although her male colleague on the till was great. Our funicular 'driver' on the way down was excellent and told us loads about the mountain. I will return though, in hope of having a better day.
