Owner description: Steam through the stunning Scottish Highlands in style. Our steam engines take you on a very special trip through the Cairngorms National Park as you travel between Aviemore, Boat of Garten and Broomhill. Why not make your trip extra special with one of our dining on board options: Light Lunch offers soup, sandwiches, tea and coffee; Afternoon Tea has some sandwiches, scones with jam and cream followed by some delicious cakes; or enjoy a full three course Sunday Lunch or Dinner. Why not upgrade to First Class to enjoy a meal in one of our compartments, finely decorated in it's own tartan, with vintage British Rail mirrors and luggage racks inside. Split your trip up with a visit to Boat of Garten to explore some fantastic walk trails or bring your bike on board to explore the great cycle routes in the area. See if you can beat the train back from Broomhill on your bike!We are also taking part in the Great Railway Treasure Hunt 2013, so there's plenty for the kids to do on the trip!

We visited Aviemore and thr Santa Express for the first time this year with our 3 and 6 year olds and we loved the whole experience. It snowed heavily the the night before our train ride ride which just added to our magical experience.
Santa was the real deal. He took time to speak to every child and had a a lovely jolly, festive demeanor. The elves were as equally fantastic. Our favourite was 'The rubbish elf'. Thank you for a wonderful start to the Christmas season.

The Steam Railway trip is a must, especially if you are accompanied by children but very, very worthwhile for adults of all ages too. Those of us who remember steam are transported to a life long gone, with smells and noises redolent of our childhood
Add the best views in Scotland to the reality of steam travel, the expressions of joy from children, the drama of the journey, food when available and even close ups of golf courses and you have a complete experience for all ages
Dr Beeching, did you do us a favour?

We travelled on the Mince Pie Special on New Year's Day - a family of four - and had a brilliant time. Felt like a step back in time to another era from the minute we stepped on the train. Beautiful scenery up to Boat of Garten, friendly staff and the lovely old train made this a trip to remember. I loved it and thought it excellent value. Mince pies and mulled wine were extra, which I had noticed at the time of booking online but some people in the queue hadn't and mistakenly thought they were included. All in all a great way to spend an afternoon in this lovely part of the world.

We clubbing together with our friends and got a first class carriage on Xmas eve,we all loved it!(4&9yr old)we had our Christmas music and a picnic along with the mulled wine and mince pies that were provided. The voluntary staff could not be any friendlier and all played their part exceptionally well!! We will definitely be back next year for magical experience with hopefully more snow!!

we were booked to travel on the santa express on 23rd December 2013 and my brother and his family were joining us for the trip. The weather that day was deep snow at aviemore and unfortunately my brother had decided to try and one over the Lecht, however had to turn and go back because the snow gates were shut. It was clear they were not going to make the train in time so we phoned the station in advance. The staff at the strathspey railway couldn't have been nicer and even offered to hold the train for 15minutes. When they still didn't make it in time they offered my brother and his family to go on the 2pm train. All the staff from the ladies in the office, the station manager, fat controller, santa and his elves were superb. Taking time to chat to the kids and making the whole experience magical. Mince pies and mulled wine were delicious also. I would thoroughly recommend the strathspey railway to anyone.
