A friend and I hiked the trail from Buckie to Aviemore (65 miles) ... About 10 to 13 miles a day. Our arrangements were made by Contours Walking Holidays, who provided detailed maps and descriptions and arranged for lodging in B&Bs and transportation for our luggage each day. So we only needed a daypack. The very start and end of the trail are not well marked, but the rest of the trail is well-marked with a thistle logo. It's a long hike, but not particularly strenuous. You travel through forests on trails or forest roads, among sheep pastures ( fenced off from the sheep), and along former rail lines. This is a great way to experience Scotland off the beaten track. It rains a lot in Scotland, so be prepared!
