“Excellent family holiday home”
Reviewed November 16, 2016 for a stay in November 2016

My wife, two boys under 10 and I enjoyed a few days break in this lovely home and it really was a treat. This home was in immaculate condition, very well equipped, warm and quiet location in a nice setting. The large vestibule was great for a family of four shedding our outer layers on entry, and each room was spacious. Sky package and WII was great for family entertainment in the evening. Local convenience store 5 minutes walk away, along with a couple of takeaways if required. Just a great holiday home, thoroughly recommended. And Aviemore, what a beautiful place, stunning views.

“Gorgeous place to stay with a great central location.”
Reviewed June 13, 2016 for a stay in June 2016

Rushed to book a place to stay as it was short notice. This popped up after hunting many places. Usually my wife and I like to look for a detached property but from the photos that we saw we couldn't resist going for this. Was it the right thing for us to do? Definitely as it is a great and quite central location for some great attractions. Cairngorms is only about 10 to 15 mins drive for skiers or simply go on the funicular ride on train to see some amazing views. The Highland Wildlife park is about the same drive and to see the Polar bears was something different for me to see. This area is also a photogenic area from wildlife to simple scenery photography. So if you are looking for a central location this house is a good place to set base for a holiday. WIFI was handy so that you could research any areas should weather cause you to change your mind. Plenty of room to chill out with a drink in the garden.

“Home from home”
Reviewed May 31, 2015 for a stay in May 2015

Spent a great week with our son and family at this house. The house has all amenities and wifi. The TV has the full Sky package and I was beaten many times at 10 pin bowling on the Wii. The shed in the garden was used for the secure storage of the bikes. Quite a new house that was nice and warm.
Although the weather was showery during the week, we managed to dodge most of them.
Ideally situated for local amenities and for visits further afield. Visited the Cairngorm and rode on furnicular railway, Inverness, Fort George, Highland Heritage centre (it's free), Ballindallock Castle, Highland Wildlife Park. There is a children's swing park at the end of the street with a good selection of slides, climbing frames, etc.

“Great base for a group”
Reviewed April 9, 2015 for a stay in March 2015

A group of 7 of us stayed in Carn Avie house for a week while doing some walking in the Cairngorms and can thoroughly recommend it.

Size

The house is advertised as for 6-8 people so we were worried that we might be a bit crowded with 7 but we needn't have worried. While there are only 'proper' beds for 6 (2 x double 1 x twin) each of the rooms has plenty of space for at least another person on the floor and one of the doubles has a sofa bed in. In the end we didn't use the sofa bed instead we put the 7th person in the twin room and there were plenty of cushions & duvets ect to make them comfortable.

There was no problem with storage space either as each of the rooms is well equipped (particularly both of the doubles)

Similarly the kitchen is kitted out for 8, the only slight squeeze was getting 7 round the dinning table but I reckon you'd have been able to fit an 8th in there too.

The drive only has space for 2 cars but there is also space for curbside parking in the area if you're brining more than 2.

Kitchen

The kitchen is kitted out with everything you need which was nice not having to bring things but the two things I was most impressed with were: A full size fridge/freezer (managed to fit a weeks worth of food for 7 people comfortably in) & a dishwasher! The latter made clearing up after meals so much easier. There's also a washing machine if needed

Sleeping

As mentioned the bedrooms were all spacious and again having bed linen and towels provided was very useful to reduce the amount of stuff we needed to bring up

Entertainment

There is free WiFi in the house as well as Sky and a Wii which was great for the evenings and when the weather wasn't so good!

Location

The house is probably a 15/20min walk from Aviemore town centre which means its within easy reach of pubs and the shops in Aviemore (the local Tesco was particularly useful for picking up bits we'd forgotten to buy on the way up!)

Summary

All in all we can't recommend the house enough, it had everything we wanted and more as our base for the week. The staff at Highland Holiday Homes were very helpful with questions we had before the trip and we'd definitely use them again

“Fabulous, couldn't ask for more"”
Reviewed March 22, 2015 for a stay in August 2014

House was fantastic, clean, fresh, and had everything you need. It was a real pleasure to stay there. A bit furher from town centre so car recommended but we were there with two kids age 4 and 7 and they weren't bored. Little play ground just few steps from the property, large garden. There was a folder with info about what to do and where to eat etc. which was great as we haven't been there before. Overall fantastic place, highly recommended.

“The property was clean, attractive and comfortable; a veritable home from home!”
Reviewed December 11, 2014 for a stay in December 2014

We were delighted with the property. It was in a new housing development and very modern. There was plenty space for the 7 of us and all the necessities were available.
It was nicely decorated and accessorised in neutral tones and furnishings. The bathroom was very spacious. All in all a great location for a weekend or longer.

An improvement would be accessing the wifi more effectively. We couldn't find a password so were unable to be connected.
Also, it was not clear in the description, that the 7th bed was a pullout in one of the double rooms; ostensibly a family room. Two adults and a 17 year old in the smaller double wasn't ideal
Finally, the mattresses were a bit soft. This was the view of all the occupants.
