Luxury Woodland Lodges at Macdonald Aviemore Resort
Ranked #8 of 11 Hotels in Aviemore
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed February 23, 2014

Just returned from a four night stay in a three bedroom lodge at Mac Donald resort in Aviemore. The lodge is rated four star but I would give it five. The lodge was spotless clean, very comfortable beds and the log fire was brilliant. The swimming pool was also great and our two sons loved the wave pool in the afternoons. We had stayed five years ago and the lodges still look like brand new. We had a hired car so that we could drive up and down to the slopes for sking but it is not necessary as you are right in the town with plenty of restaurants and a Tesco. You can also hire bikes and the dry ski slope at the hotel. Will definitely be back again, fantastic place to stay for affordable ski experience.

Room Tip: We have stayed in lodge 2 and 5 the higher numbers are a bit cramped together.

Was up for a short break between christmas and new year. Lodge 10, everything was perfect on arrival, even a christmas tree in the lounge, lovely. Loved the wood burner, take t shirts for inside the lodge as its gets very hot once the fire is on at full blast.

Paid £5 in advance to macdonald hotel for breakfasts and it was well worth it, 10/10 for choice, service and standard. Went in one morning 15 before closing and the chef was still putting out fresh, hot cooked goods. Also paid in advance for dinner in Aspects, well worth it, standard very high and the staff were a pleasure. Old Brig Inn was very good for a meal also and had nice hot cocktail list. Reindeer viewing on the way up to the slopes was also very good and the ski centre was like being in Austria, we joined the ski school and found it well worth it, 10 - 12.15 then 1 - 3.30 lessons , passes and skis had lunch up at the top restaurant and found it very reasonable and of good quality, so did the other 200 people. WE were lucky and got a seat. Tesco and semi chem in Aviemore, 5 min walk away for any extras you might need. Also a good live band on at the hotel just at the foot of the drive that leads up to macdonald resort. Good time had by all we will certainly be back. Well done to all the staff.
Dvd player in lodge, if you like evenings in take dvds with you.

Room Tip: 3 bed lodges have wood burners in them, don't think other lodges do.

Stayed two nights here everything you could ask for even complimentary water and crisps on arrival. Check-in time was late but arrived just before two o'clock and got in. Bedrooms spacious each having an ensuite bathroom with Arran Aromatic toiletries. Nice touch was bathrobe and slippers in wardrobe for use while there. Dinner and breakfasts taken in Aspects restaurant were of good quality as was dinner we had at Italian restaurant. Overall a wonderful stay with family.

Stayed for 2 nights in Lodge number 11. Lovely peaceful setting in amongst the trees but only a 5 minute walk from the swimming pool and and restaurants in the resort. Lodge was clean and spacious, with 3 large bedrooms all with en-suite. Lodge was also very cool considering it was 29 degrees outside with plenty of windows to open and let fresh air in. Tvs in all 3 bedrooms and a comfortable lounge area with another tv. King Size bed was very comfy in our room. Had dinner on the first night at the Italian inside the Aviemore Inn which was good. Breakfast was in the Highland Hotel on both mornings and was also good with a good selection available. Dinner on the second night was in the Highland Hotel and this was excellent, it was so warm outside they had put tables outside which we took advantage of and had a lovely dinner.

Overall the lodge was excellent, only 2 things could make it better 1) a Hot tub at the lodge 2) later check out time and earlier check in time available.

12 of us stayed in 2 lodges for a hen weekend and i was pleasently surprised at the quality of the lodges. spotlessly clean and well maintained. bathrooms lovely with heated floors. heating didnt come on until 1110pm which meant we were freezing until then! We used the wood burning stove though.
Kitchens are really small and we had food to heat up but we managed.
These are not a cheap option as they are £600 per lodge per weekend.
They seem to be a mecca for stag and hen parties so be aware there will be noise.
Apart from that i would reccommend them!

We spent 2 nights at one of the Lodges and taking the all inclusive option for evening meal and breakfast. The lodge was extremely spacious with each bedroom complete with a double/kingsize bed and additional singles in some case. So no problmes sharing out the rooms. The rooms were all lovely and clean and were ready for our arrival. The downstairs area was lovely with fantastic windows covering the front of the lodge. We used the wood burner and there was more than enough wood for our stay. The breakfast was very filling and offered a wide and tasty collection for everyone. Evning meal was excellent quality in the aspect? restaurant. Although the decor was rather dark and 70's. It was October , so no doubt summer visitors will find it less depressing! However service was efficient especially by the couple from Estonia, they were fantastic and made our stay. We used the centre for our 4 year old daughter and she still mentions Aviemore half a year on. It was expensive and I think it should have been cheaper but we enjoyed it. Not sure if we would go back or try somewhere else for that kind of money.

We are just back from 4 nights with our friends. Lodge accommodation suited us - 4 adults and 2 teenage boys. Staff were friendly and helpful - reception and housekeeping in particular. Breakfast at Aspects restaurant was great. We also enjoyed the spa. We were a little surprised our 14 year olds couldn't swim without an adult in the building but this is the rule.
Overall we had a fabulous time and hope to go back.
