“Good cake but slice sizes are getting mean!”
Reviewed May 16, 2014

Having used this cafe since it opened - I have noticed that although the cakes are as good as ever the slices are getting smaller and smaller - at almost £10 for tea and cake for 2 it should be bigger - Great to watch the birds while eating and drinking - but make the slices a bit more generous!

“Don't drive past, call in for cake !”
Reviewed May 10, 2014

Fabulous little cafe set within a garden nursery. Fresh homemade cakes are delicious, as is the coffee and numerous varieties of tea, nicely presented in china cups & saucers. Birdwatching the 13 feeders takes your mind off the calorie counting!

“Great cake! Amazing coffee!”
Reviewed May 8, 2014

I've been a huge fan of the Potting Shed for about six years now. The coffee is delicious, the cake is even better. My only gripe would be that they have to refrigerate the cream cakes, somewhat dulling the flavour and texture.

You can also watch the chaffinches and squirrels eat their dinner while you have your cake.

“Cake with free entertainment”
Reviewed May 7, 2014

I could simply write 'Cake', and be done with this review, but in the interests of convincing you further on the merits of this place...

Okay, it's small. It's basically an add-on to the Inshriach Nursery (of the plant rather than toddler type), but is probably responsible for more people visiting than any gladioli. There are a few little tables in the main area by the till, but the best seats in the house are in the narrow 'galley' at the back, high chairs with a shelf on which to rest your cake and coffee looking out onto some immense bird feeders. Chaffinches and Siskins seemed to dominate on our visit, but all sorts can be found there, as well as the iconic little Red Squirrel. It's such a nice way to pass time that you almost forget about eating your cake. Almost.

Our band of 6 tried most of the flavours on offer, which included a couple of gluten free offerings are as well, both of which were beautifully moist and full of flavour. Okay, so they might not be the xcheapest cakes in the world, but you get big big slices and that taste...

Given this is a garden centre, in an area renowned for outdoor pursuits, there could be some who might view it as a little rough and ready, but that just emans you'll be welcome no matter what you're wearing (most of our troop had cycled a few miles along wet forest trails). Strangely though (and this is what leads to the loss of a star) there is a sign on the gate informing you that dogs aren't allowed. Maybe it's a practical space thing, but it does seem a little out of keeping.

“Fantastic cake stop in beautiful setting”
Reviewed May 6, 2014

A little gem hidden away on a secluded back road between Aviemore and Glenfeshie. Worthy of a bike trip amid beautiful scenery. A simple looking plant nursery with a truly astonishing coffee shop in the old potting shed, looking out on trees teeming with bird and wildlife. The cakes are absolutely sensational - among the best in the country. True, they are a bit pricey, but remember the wonderful setting and where you are.
Quite simply, one not to be missed.
