Hilton Coylumbridge Hotel

Stayed in a family suite for 2 night DB&B. Chose this over the other big resort hotel in the area.

Check in felt like we were on a conveyor belt with the receptionist basically going through the motions of her mental checklist. We were asked if we had booked in for dinner that night - which we hadn't. There was a choice of family Italian style buffet at 5pm or set menu dinner at 8.45pm. With an 8 year old 8.45 is certainly too late to eat. We went for the family buffet option.

The buffet was ok with selection of pizza, pasta with either tomato or cheese sauce, fish, pork and meatball options. A few choices for desert. Again nothing special. We ordered 3 diet cokes and about fell off our seat at the cost of £9 for this. Ask for draft it's much cheaper!! No labels on the food to tell you what it actually was....I got a strange look for asking what the potato dish had in it. Also no allergy information either (Son is allergy sufferer)

The room & bathroom were clean with clean bedding and towels. They certainly need to update these. The bunk beds look like something out of a youth hostel not a hilton hotel.

The facilities like the Funhouse and outdoor activity area close around 5pm so if you hope to have something to do in resort after dinner....don't bother its all closed. A tad disappointing especially in high summer season.

Breakfast was good with lots of choice of cooked breakfast and continental. Felt sorry for the poor chef who had to try to make up multiple orders for fresh pancakes using a single small frying pan. He certainly kept cheery throughout his ordeal at his waiting audience....maybe a investment in a larger griddle pan would help this situation.

The Bistro meal on our second night was great. First class service and food. £16 allowance for your DB&B so you may need to pay a little extra but well worth it. Again no allergy information and my son had a vanilla cheese cake for desert which he loved...only after a minute or 2 his mouth started to swell. We ran upstairs for his medication whilst husband asked for ingredients. It contained granola in the base so basically everything he is allergic to. Thankfully we didn't have to use the epipen and it settled with his inhaler and piriton. I had actually asked earlier for bread with no sesame seeds due to his allergy but we can't expect the waiting staff to know all the ingredient so a note on the menu would be a good start.

In summary: Good base for families exploring the area and looking for clean but basic accommodation. The dinning areas are very modern and pleasant but food description and allergy info could be displayed. Oh and you have to pay for Wi fi unless you have some gold Hilton honours account which in my mind is them just getting more money from you. You can get comp Wi-Fi in the main lobby so why not go that extra mile for the quest experience and give it throughout the hotel like most other chains do.

Thank you for your review on your stay and for your feedback. We currently do offer free WiFi throughout the hotel including guest bedrooms although guests can upgrade for a charge if they wish. Unfortunately at the current time it is not available in the Fun House. We also offer Kid Activities for children aged 5 years and over (free of charge) each evening, these are subject to demand but to date have been running every evening throughout the school holidays

Allergy information is available on all of our menus and it is recommended that guests who suffer from any allergy bring this to the attention of their waiter/waitress.

Stayed for 2nd time at Hilton Coylumbridge and in answer to being accused of lying by the Guest relations manager comment from our last review - the Inverdruie restaurant was most definitely shut - 22nd Jan! Couldn't re-review until months after we stayed this time!!

This stay was better in some ways as we booked a suite which was fairly recently refurbished and worth the extra money compared to the tiny and old 4'6 double we had last time. The restaurant food was good (but see below) and the staff too with a special mention for Anca and Kahlir (apologies if spelt wrong) who were excellent.

On the down side the wrong food was delivered on the first night and we were then also charged extra for food we didn't have, the coffee prices vary throughout the hotel and you get charged a different amount to that written in the menu anyway (but both extra charges were removed on querying). 2nd night our food was delivered to another table. It was good food, just like it to be in front of me!

The menu is small and good, but frequently 1-2 items were not available. As it's a small menu it should all be there - or do a special (for a bit of variety).

Breakfast is plentiful but again brown bread ran out and there was none in the hotel on a couple of mornings.

As a family hotel, kids are expected, but there should also be adult only areas (e.g. The bar and part of the restaurant) and times - kids meal times seem to be all night and all over the restaurant, foyer eating area and the bar. The toilets and urinals in the foyer are also very low - all of them!

The suite had an interconnecting door to the next door room and you can hear absolutely everything through it (both ways).

Thank your for taking the time to post your review. With regard to adults only areas our Woodshed Bar does not allow children after 8pm and the Restaurant, if numbers allow, do try and keep the raised area, The Druie Room, child free. As with all of our valued guests, families can choose to dine at whichever time is suitable although many choose our Family Dining option.

We stayed 5 nights here on our trip around Scotland. We used it as a base for day trips. We had a ground floor room with 2 double beds. I think this hotel is in need of a make over in the rooms. Our room certainly looked tired and dark - definitely needs better lighting. The carpet and the rooms and hallways needs replacing. The reception area/restaurants look as though they have been updated and are more modern looking than the rooms. We had dinner in the restaurant one night, the food was average so we ate out the other nights. Breakfast was included and that was a buffet in the huge restaurant.

We have stayed here several times as a family of four over the years as love the area. We stayed in a family suite which did provide extra space but was a bit old fashioned and dark. Overall enjoyed our 4 nights but I think the hotel are just a bit greedy. The prices for drinks and snacks is very pricey and most of the facilities do need modernising. The food was good but the menu did not change for the 4 nights we were there. My biggest issue is the family meal policy. We booked on a dinner, bed and breakfast rate but as our children are now 11 and over we had to pay for their evening meals and breakfast on top of rate even if they ate from children's menu, so for the same meal a 10 year old sitting next to us would get for free! There is basically no choice as our meals were included and to take advantage of this we have to eat with our children! It's almost as though they are trying to discourage children with older families staying. I think we will book a cottage somewhere next year.

Thank you for your review and for your valuable feedback. Our family policy has been in place for many years and many other Hilton Hotels also have this. Children 11 years and over can be inclusive of meals if they are booked as an adult which, for some families, can be more cost effective.

I have booked a two-night getaway for myself, daughter and two granddaughters. Having read about the lack of a lift, and having mobility problems, I telephoned the hotel to ask about a ground floor room. I was transferred to Reservations (American voice - don't know where) where I discussed my requirements i.e. ground floor rooms, double for me and a family room for the girls, with rooms as near to each other as possible. She put me on hold while she supposedly spoke to the hotel reception and, after about ten minutes, came back and said that was not a problem and the rooms, one of which she said was accessible, had been allocated to me. So I went ahead and made the booking. A few days later I still had not received any confirmation so I e:mailed Customer Services only to be told rooms booked in advance cannot be allocated until check-in with the quote 'I'm sure everything will be fine when you arrive'. If I had not had my requirements confirmed I would not have booked. I e:mailed to ask if they record their calls and, if so, could they check what had been said to me but I have not even had the courtesy of a reply! Rather than looking forward to a couple of days away with my family, I am now dreading it.

We had 4 nights at the Hilton Coylumbridge on a bed / breakfast and evening meal rate. This was excellent value for money, and the food was excellent. Breakfast was on a buffet arrangement with cooked Scottish breakfast goods including haggis and Tatty scones - delicious. There were pastries, yoghurt, granola etc which was all very fresh and tasty. Evening meals were provided in a choice of restaurants - Inverdruie restaurant was more formal dining with a 3 course meal offered and then there was the bistro in which you got an allowance of £16 to spend on the various selections offered. we only ate in the Inverdruie as the food was excellent.
Staff at the hotel were extremely friendly with nothing too much trouble. Check in / out was effortless and very efficient. The only negatives are that the bar was very expensive - £13 for two gin and tonics seems pricey. Also the hotel doesn't have a lift which might affect those who maybe struggle with stairs.
The views form the room we were in were lovely, over the back car park but to the mountains behind - really lovely.
Overall a great experience and we will definitely be going back.

Room Tip: Try and get on the B&B / evening meal tariff as Aviemore tends to be pricey to eat out and the f...

We have holidayed in a lodge here for over 20 years and obviously enjoyed it. However, our very bad experience Aug 2013 indicated that the needs of the paying customer comes way down the list of priorities. We didn't return this year as a result but we did pay a visit to see if any changes had been made....we could only spot general deterioration! The ONLY consistently good treatment we've had was from Nicola and her team at the Outdoor Experience. Not only are our children well looked after but Nicola remembers them from previous visits and actively encourages them to try to improve. I was also pleasantly surprised at the costs...no increases in years! While the play park area is free, it's now in need of improvement....same old, same old.
