“Not great”
Reviewed October 14, 2010

we had to pay for our 'free' popadoms - they were nice however with the lovely dips.
main courses were mediocre - service limited - will avoid if we go to Aviemore again

“Food was ok but service was terrible!”
Reviewed August 31, 2010

We visited this Indian after quotes in the visitors book in the house we were staying in said it was good. We had previously visited the Tandori Indian in Aviemore which was always good. We were impressed with the interior and that it was quite full. However they took ages to come and take a drink order which was a different waiter to the one that had shown us to the table. Then it was another 20 mins before they came and took our food order. We were sat at our table for over an hour before we got our food. People in the meantime had come in, had their meal, paid and gone. The Harley Davidson Group had obviously booked some large tables and makes me wonder if the restaurant couldn't cope. However these large groups - one had finished as we got in and another arrived not long after we got our food. We then waited over half hour for anyone to ask if we wanted a dessert or another drink but we didn't get asked so in the end we had to ask twice for our bill. We were served by about five different waiters. Not impressed and will not use them again, will go back to the original indian where they couldn't do enough for us.

“Staff overcharged us but food was ok”
Reviewed July 13, 2010

I was there in a large group for a stag do and 16 of us went to the restaurant, each had a curry (between (£8-£10) and 2 beers. We shared rice and naans yet there was a bunch of extras we didnt anticipate!

Poor service - the stags curry arrived once everyone else had finished. They said they would give us it for half price but they were told it simply wouldn't be paid for. Despite finishing our meals 7 more portions or rice arrived!! And conveniently the bill came to £400 exactly.

We spotted exactly how they did this which was to charge us £14 per shot for 3 sambucas = £42!!. Outrageous, but since these items were not listed in the menu they could charge what they want.

What a shame because the actual curry was very good.

Apart from the over-charging the native staff seemed to take great delight in bullying and shouting at two young Scottish members of staff and spent most of the evening taking the micky out of them. Pretty poor show in our view.

Given the shortage of options in Aviemore for food this one is probably still worth checking out but watch them like hawks or you could be ripped off too!

Better still try the Cairngorm hotel for food, great pub, great beer selection and really good food/staff.

“Rip off and food was terrible!”
Reviewed July 12, 2010

My partner and i have just come back from a visit to Aviemore, the trip itself was fantastic, i wish i could say the same about Spice Of India. We had a meal there on July 10th 2010. We had been loking forward to it all day as we are both big fans of Indian food and have eaten in various restaurants and from numerous takeaways.

We sat down and were greeted by a waiter who although friendly was (for lack of better words) a bumbling idiot. We were pestered to take "free" popadoms while we waited (which we repeatedly declined only for him to bring some anyway). Then he proceeded to walk past our table no less than 7 times and each time moved either a wine glass, plate or piece of cutlery on our table when we had placed them as we wanted them!

My partner ordered a lamb dish and i ordered a Chicken Korma. The lam looked great but was absolutely tasteless, not a hint of spice about it. The chicken Korma was something else entirely, the only way i can describe it is that it tasted like a plate of chicken covered in custard. The sauce was sickeningly sweet, a horrible colour and very lumpy. The rice with both of our dishes was a congealed mess and had silly pink and green bits in it. I felt like i was eating a children colouring book.

At the end of our meal we got the bill and the waiter asked if we had enjoyed our meal, i said no, it was far too sweet and i did not eat it. He simply grinned at me, said "ooo korma is very sweet" and proceeded to process our bill.

In the end we spent over £37, for two tasteless mushy servings that i would not feed to a starving animal let alone a human!

I will NEVER eat there again and will tell every single person i know to avoid it at all costs. In fact that what it says in my facebook status at the mo!

I have eaten hundreds of chicken kormas and not once have i tasted one so disgusting, i could make a better one myself!!
