Excellent evening trip into the wildlife hide near aviemore run by Speyside wildlife. Not cheap but a must for any wildlife enthusiast. Almost guarantees badgers we had 5 but no pine Martin on our visit. I will go again!

Had a great time at the hide, very knowledgeable guide John. Couldn't believe how close the animals came, arrived at the site and spotted a group of red deer eating, once inside the hide it became even more impressive showing four televisions linked to four night cameras placed out in the darkness on the paths, giving us plenty of time to get to the best position to watch the animals. Then the badgers came, then the main event, a Pine Marten. I had a great time.
Suggestion: take a very small tripod, the ones that stand about six inches high, you can fit that onto the table inside the hide by the window or take a bean bag to rest your camera on.

As part of our UK Holiday we booked some excursions with Speyside Wildlife - and they really delivered the goods! We started with Saturday evening in the Dusk Hide - great! Two Pine Martens came and stayed for over half an hour - only a few feet away and apparently oblivious to the 6 people in the hide photographing away. After they left, 3 badgers arrived. On Saturday we spent the day in the Caledonian Pine Forest with John Picton (who was also in charge of the Dusk Hide). He is very knowledgeable and good company - and particularly good at finding the birds we particularly wanted to see - Crested Tits and Crossbills - and a lot of others.Sunday morning we spent on top of Cairngorm mountain, this time with John Gregson - another success, this time with Dotterels & Ptarmigan - another really memorable day, with another great guide. After lunch we went into Abernethy forest and had really good views of Crested Tits feeding young.
The price of the tours is very good value and we can thoroughly recommend the operation.

Thanks so much for a fantastic evening I'll never forget! Awesome doesn't even begin to describe it! The hide was warm and dark with the outside flood lit n we were beginning to feel a bit sleepy then after about half an hour some red deer turned up and ate a load of the peanuts and left. It went really quite and we wondering if we'd get a refund for no badgers or pine martins but then.....a juvenile pine Martin came n ran up the tree n on to the feeder for about 10 minutes before leaving, a little bit later a badger came n stayed for quite a while then daddy pine Martin came too followed by a wood mouse!! It's fairly rare to get 1 pine Martin let alone two pine martins who both stayed for about 10 minutes!! John our guide was really nice and knowledgeable too. Thank you so much for a superb evening!!

During our dusk visit to the hide, we were lucky enough to see a pine marten, 5 badgers and 2 red deer. The animals were all within a couple of metres of the hide and seemed to be oblivious to our presence. The views were unbeatable and the lighting means it's easy to get good photos. Fantastic experience- will be back!!
