Description: We use some of Scotland's best local produce to create healthy, wholesome & interesting food with a Kiwi twist. We opened our doors in 2004 and have been gaining awards and accolades for our antipodean style coffees, delicious breakfasts, superb lunches & fresh home baking ever since. Our service is friendly & casual with a professional team from all over the world. The café offers excellent views of the Cairngorm Mountains - enjoy our balcony area during summer and the cosy log burner to sit by during the winter months. All the pictures are of our food - why not come in and sample our hospitality when you are in the area next?

“Pleasant surprise!”
Reviewed September 26, 2010

went here simply after reading reviews - probably wouldn't have bothered otherwise as it looks nothing from the outside. was going to have a coffee and cake, ended up having a meal with a glass of wine! menu was very interesting and i was spoilt for what to choose. opted for the pear, apple, stilton etc salad and it was deeeelicious. only shame was that the cafe closes early evening. if it was open late we would have returned for an evening meal. but hey....it was fab, what more can you ask for.

“Spoilt for choice”
Reviewed September 12, 2010

The Mountain Cafe was recommended to us by fellow Kiwi travellers & we certainly weren't disappointed. The biggest difficulty was choosing from the huge array of food available. Even thought it was 5pm when we arrived, we were still able to choose from the diverse lunch menu, & washed down our delicious chicken & salad sandwiches with the first decent coffee since arriving in Scotland. The monstrous berry sponge cake took our eye, but we had to settle for getting it to take away as we certainly had no room for it there & then. Since disposed of with great delight! We'll certainly be back for more Kiwi/Scot hospitality before we leave the area.

“Great locally sourced food and really broad menu for all tastes”

Excellent choice for breakfast, lunch and coffe or tea. If the weather is nice, certainly suggest sitting on the balcony with views of the Cairngorm and the steam railway

“My favorite in Scotland!!!!!!!!! OMG”
Reviewed August 28, 2010

I was introduced to Mountain Cafe by a friend and it became my favorite place to eat breakfast in Scotland. I live in Edinburgh and I honestly cannot find anything that compares. From time to time I make the 3 hour trip to Aviemore simply to be able to wake up in the morning and have a fab breakfast. The coffee is really really good, the baked goods fantastic, and the meals are to die for. The scrambled eggs.....I have no idea how they do it but they are so fluffy and flavorful. There is a dish with scrambled eggs on english muffins and everything about it is just perfect. The view is really nice, the atmosphere relaxed, chilled which goes really well with this town which is a bit of a (scottish) ski resort. The service is fab, everyone is really nice. Its owned by a Kiwi and this might have something to do with it's spirit. The line is usually out the door, for a very good reason, so arrive early and get first pick of table. Sigh, I'm getting hungry just writing this.

“Every town needs a Mountain Cafe, great...”
Reviewed August 19, 2010

Every town needs a Mountain Cafe, great fresh, tasty and healthy food. Simple menu means everything top notch. Cakes, smoothies and coffee to die for.

My only complaint is they are not open for dinner....the place would be rammed!
