Description: We use some of Scotland's best local produce to create healthy, wholesome & interesting food with a Kiwi twist. We opened our doors in 2004 and have been gaining awards and accolades for our antipodean style coffees, delicious breakfasts, superb lunches & fresh home baking ever since. Our service is friendly & casual with a professional team from all over the world. The café offers excellent views of the Cairngorm Mountains - enjoy our balcony area during summer and the cosy log burner to sit by during the winter months. All the pictures are of our food - why not come in and sample our hospitality when you are in the area next?

Mountain Cafe. We literally walked into the outdoor shop underneath the mountain cafe to have a look round the equipment; and spotted a huge queue going up the stairs at lunch time. The queue was full of locals happy to wait for the food that awaits them upstairs and chatting away to the tourists. We had eaten already on the trip up from Edinburgh to Aviemore so decided to give it a miss. We asked at the hotel on good places to eat whilst mentioning the shop with the huge queue going upstairs she just said that's mountain cafe and its the best in Aviemore. We had a big day in front of us zip lining across a gorge with G2 outdoors (amazing by the way) we asked the Instructor and he was swearing by the mountain cafe saying that the food was amazing but the cakes are to die for.....we waited, we got seated, we ordered, we ate , we ordered cake to go and we can't wait to go back. It was exceptional !!!!!

We joined a queue of people on the stairs up to the Cafe on Saturday lunchtime - after 15 mins, with the queue not diminishing at all, we gave up and ate elsewhere. At 12 noon on Sunday we tried again - the Cafe was already full but after just 5 minutes we were seated. The food was delicious: Interesting salads, soup & Artisan bread. We ended the meal with cakes, scones & coffee. There was a HUGE choice of home made cakes - I settled on Carrot Cake - the best I'd ever tasted. The food was great, big windows look out onto the Cairngorms and the walls were covered with interesting photos of the area. An excellent eatery. We will definately go back.

The cooked breakfast was good, well presented and good quality although the condiments and jams served with it were very cheap and poor quality which was a surprise when the sold home made jams and chutneys.

We went back another morning and had muesli and porridge my boyfriend said his muesli was really too sweet and couldn't finish it and I just couldn't eat my porridge with berries as it was incredibly sweet and syrupy and covered in icing sugar which was a first for me and a very odd thing to put on porridge. I over heard a child on another table complain that his breakfast was too sweet.

Generally really over priced and service is fine but a bit abrupt.

Very slow service. Took over 20 minutes to get our order taken then at least 30 minutes to get our lunch. There was a sign up warning that service may be slow during peak times but our visit was not during peak times and several tables were empty. Other tables were also struggling to get served. Food was ok when it eventually arrived.

We stopped in at the Mountain Cafe on a driech morning for coffees and cakes. It was very busy and had a good atmosphere (this was not our first visit). It took quite a while to attract the attention of any of the serving staff, and once we had chosen, our order took a long time to arrive. However, when it did, it was well worth it. The cake selection was enormous and the portions were also huge. The cakes tasted amazing and were surprisingly light. The coffees were also excellent. I would thoroughly recommend this cafe, unless you're in a rush!
