“Fantastic stay - will def be back”
Reviewed September 18, 2012

I stayed there with my husband last Saturday night, along with another couple as we were attending a wedding in a village near by. We chose the hotel because it was reasonably priced.

We arrived around 4pm and was personally shown to our room and was advised how the locks work and the hot water. Was also advised that there would be kareoke on later and that we could easily partake if we liked.

The room was a fine size, the furniture and bed all looked new. There was tea, coffee and biscuits. the room we stayed at was number two.

Everything was spot on, we came home late from wedding and got in no problem.

Breakfast next day was a fry up with tea and toast - just what the doctor ordered. Service was quick and everything was cooked perfect! There was also cereal available of anyone fancied.

We will definitely stay again, we have just been speaking about booking between now and Christmas because we liked it so much.

Nope - this place needs a complete refurb.

You have to go through the bar to get to reception as the door is locked. This means you get a first had view of what is in store! There's plenty being drunk!

Bathrooms very small.

One of the room windows wouldn't close.

Very noisy bar which can be heard downstairs.

Breakfast decidedly average and not served early enough IMHO.

Friendly staff.

The place has seen better days but like much of Aviemore, the price you pay doest reflect the product you get. Pity.

Room Tip: Outside under the smokers tent!

Picked Mackenzies Highland Inn due to price and location, it is very central yet set back from the road so traffic is not a problem. I did read before booking that Fri & Sat nights can be noisy due to live music, this was true, but since we were pre-warned about this, it wasn't an issue. In fact, if we had been less tired from our outdoors activities during the day, we would have been down in the bar joining everyone else!! The rooms were fine for what you needed them for, brekkie was good and certainly set you up for the day. Lovely staff, very helpful. We are hoping to return soon!!

Room Tip: I would avoid rooms 4 & 5 if you like to sleep before midnight on a Fri / Sat night :)

We stayed here for a night when in Aviemore for a girls day/night out! Was Fab. The friendliest staff ever! Brilliant breakfast. Great room. Great size en suite. My partner and I usually stay in the macdonald resort if in Aviemore. Have to say I found this wee hotel far more friendlier and welcoming! Great stay.....

Bottom line, avoid if you want a good nights sleep. Refuse rooms 4 and 5 which are right over a very noisey bar. Not for hillwalkers, stayed in better bunkhouses.
Staff friendly and breakfast greasy.
Not for me though.

Just left mckenzies gone to find more food, they were trying to pass off child portions as full portions and "homemade" food comes out of the freezer. Best description CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

P.s. Will NEVER return as it was also CRAP value for money.

On arrival we nearly retreated to the door but we had already been asked to pay in advance. The corridor was dark and barely wide enough for a suitcase. The room was small but well furnished apart from the tatty old chair that was covered in a throw. The bed was comfortable and the linen clean but there was a thick layer of dust underneath the bed that you could have written your name in. The shower was adequate but it was growing mould on the outside. On the plus side the hosts were very helpful and the breakfast was really good.
