Reviewed May 5, 2009

Just back from a long weekend with the girls (and 3 dogs!) and we stayed in 'Eilrig'. As previous reviews have said the location is great, just outside the main town but close enough. The bungalow is great, very roomy, very clean and has everything you would need from cleaning materials to towels and fresh bedding.

The kitchen is very well equipt and the livingroom/dining room is spacious and has a tv/dvd/video.

There is a lovely little garden and driveway but it's not enclosed so we didn't let the dogs out alone, saying that, that wasn't a problem. It is such a lovely quiet wooded area it was nice and easy to nip out to the woods with the dogs and most times we did, there were deer wandering around just outside!!

We spent a lovely day at Loch Morlich, it's a great easy walk around it (about 4 miles) but lots of nice stopping places for picnics and a gorgeous beach!

The views are spectacular!

Would I recommend it - YES! Would I go back - Can't wait!

we have stayed at Cairngorm Highland Bungalows for the last 5 years and we keep going back, some years twice a year (june and nov) :)

i have stayed in two of the properties, Coire Mhor and also Lynwood (for a girls weekend). Both properties are comfortable, always immaculate and have everything you could need. The location is great, a 10 min walk into Aviemore but far enough away from the hustle and bustle to be nice and quiet too :) they also both back onto an amazing view of the Cairngorm.

One of the great things about Cairngorm Bungalows is the owner (Linda), she stays near by and is always happy to help.

Dogs are welcome at all of the properties and there is no extra charge, in fact there is no extra charge for things like high chairs, cots, camp beds etc. In fact, the prices are very reasonable and the only extra charge is the £1 meter for electricity but this doesn't eat money like some of these things!

You can also arange a pass for Dalfaber (the local timeshare complex) for a fee of £20 i think.

I would never hesitate to recommend Cairngorm Bungalows and do at every opportunity, i now have a few friends who have also become regular visitors :)

We booked the “Coire Mhor” bungalow, which is the 1 bedroom semi-detatched house that was available. They also offer 2 and 3 bedroom properties. (all with other such curious local names!)

The location of the bungalow is fantastic. It’s on an estate of similar holiday homes only 15 minutes walk or around 3 minutes drive from the centre of Aviemore.(where there’s a great Tescos!) It is also brilliantly located for day trips to the Cairngorm Mountains, Highland Wildlife Park and Rothiemurchus highland estate. (to name but a few) as its 5 minutes from the main A9 road. You also get views of the mountain range right from the bungalow as there is a small patio to the rear of the property.

The bungalow is basically a fully furnished 1 bedroom house that also has a camp bed if required. By fully furnished, I really mean there is nothing missing. You get Fridge/Freezer, Cooker, Microwave, Washer along with iron and ironing board etc. As well as fresh towels and bed linen on arrival. It must also be noted that the cleanliness of the property on arrival was terrific, the bathroom and shower/bath were spotless. The front room has a TV with a video player, but unfortunately, no freeview, so there were only 4 channels to watch, which was probably the only gripe of our stay.

All power and heating in the house was electric which was supplied via a meter that took £1 coins, but in the 7 days we were there we only put £5 in it.

Pricewise, I could not find any self-catering property in the area for as cheap as this bungalow cost us and It’s a great base for exploring the beautiful Cairngorms with plenty of restaurants and pubs in Aviemore for the evenings. I’d highly recommend it.
