“Not worth the money”
Reviewed December 29, 2010

This is a very tired "resort" needing much updating. The swimming pool area is very run down with wall tiles missing and little or no heating in the female changing rooms. Actually there seemed to be a severe lack of heating in any of the leisure areas including the bar area. When we checked in we were offered no information on the facilities meaning it was pot luck if we happened to be in the bar area when the children's face painting was on. The accommodation is very dated and there is a charge (extortionate) for ever scrap of electricity used in your accommodation. The children went to play table tennis ( extra Charge) in the sports hall and came back colder than they would have been standing in the snow outside. Overall this is not worth the money and there are definitely better quality places to stay in Aviemore. Not some place I would recommend.

We never stayed here but decided to try out their Steakhouse Restaurant . We drove by in the morning and we were advised to book our table for that evening. When we returned the restaurant was empty which did not fill us with much confidence. We were shown to our table and passed the Menu which has on the cover Steakhouse Restaurant . We opened the menu with great anticipation of what would greet us on the inside what wonderful steaks could we be enjoying ? Stop the menu as three steaks on it all 8 oz now in my eyes that is a burger ? How can they call themselves a steakhouse surely there must be some culinary laws about this 3 steaks all 8 oz. Obviously we promptly left this establishment and headed off to the Italian ' La Taverna ' and were served the best T Bone steak and Rib Eye we have had in a long time .

We stayied on Chalet 26. very good Chalet with full kichen, dvd player and many facilities, but the oven was not warking (which should be checked in advance) and the sofa were overused. generally very cute chalet and for shure we wouldlike to rejoin it.
Generaly the resort were very friendly, although the too much snow we had, they did their best to amuse us with events etc. very tastefull plates on the pub!

We stayed in Chalet 22 for a week in August, it seemed clean, the beds were not very comfortable, hardly any tv reception and the sofa was like sitting on a plank of wood. To be fair they are doing up the chalets slowly so if you get a newly decorated one your experience could be a lot better. The swimming pool was very nice but the one at the highland resort was better but you had to pay for it, I was led to believe that you could leave children 5 and above for the childrens activities, but you couldnt really, they were more or less left alone and they didnt take long, 15 mins max really. But saying all that we werent there for childrens activities. We had some food in the restaurant one evening and it was nice and we stayed for some of the eve entertainment which the kids loved. There is a small play area for the children and a soft play which is more or less a room with not a lot in it. We had some mixed meals in Aviemore, didnt really rate either of the pizza places, The Old Bridge Inn was lovely as was the Mountain Cafe, had a nice indian too from the place next to the train station. Did try to eat at Ord Bain but as we had children they only allowed you to have a table before 6.30 and the only thing that they would cook kids was a beef burger so we didnt bother going there. All in all the resort and chalet was OK, but I'm sure you could find better for a similar price.

As this is primarily a timeshare resort and we were doing an exchange its difficult to assess value. I would not want to be paying too much for average accommodation and facilities. Disappointing location through an industrial estate and rooms/lodges some distance from the reception and rather basic clubhouse facilities. Lots of maintenance problems with the accommodation including a bed settee which was virtually unusable as a bed.
