After much searching and deliberating we chose Pine Bank Chalets for our log cabin retreat in Aviemore. We were not disappointed. The site was great, it was quiet and we weren't overlooked by the other cabins. Ideally located just off the main road, but no road noise can be heard. 9 miles to the Cairngorm range and a 2 minute walk to Aviemore centre. The cabin was spacious and really felt like home from home. Simon and Tanja were fantastic and our son wanted to bring "Bennett" their friendly dog back with us. Unfortunately we had no room in the car! All i can say is excellent, first class. We have told all our friends and we would thoroughly recommend this place. Looking to go back soon, so hope all the borders have been planted Simon!!. All the best!!

Room Tip: Best cabin is Bynack. 4 adults comfortably.

The location is fantastic, you can walk into Aviemore in under 5 mins, there were Red Squirrels in the garden and the river Spey across the road. BUT, the lodge was dark and very poorly lit (I could not see what was in my bag when unpacking & that was in daylight with the lights on!) & the cleanliness left a lot to be desired - I found cigarette papers and sweet wrappers under the settee which had obviously not been moved out to be hoovered. The kitchen and bathroom were very old & tired as were the utensils & pots & pans. This could be made a lot better by decoration, better lighting & more thorough cleaning. Incidentally, there was a switch for a bathroom heater but none in evidence so bear this in mind if you visit when it turns cold.

We stayed here for three nights from the 12th to the 15th April and my family loved it. Straight out the door on our bikes and we were off on a great 16 mile ride through the forests to Loch Morlich. At the bottom of the steps of our chalet was the Old Bridge Inn, a great pub with good food, beers and music. We had 6 in the chalet for one night when my folks stayed over, which was a bit tight. However, everything in the chalets works and we all slept well. The highlight was seeing a red squirrel right outside our window as we had breakfast one morning. It is a five star hotel but it is a very good accommodation for families who want to get right into the outdoors biking or skiing and a mum and dad that love a good pub! Ticked our boxes and we will be back!

I have stayed at Pinebank, Aviemore before and was willing to give it a second chance. It's not good news! The bedding was in a dreadful state. The condition of the chairs was appalling. The housekeeping is substandard and the television was very small. If you are looking for quality, comfort and hospitality, give this place a body swerve. On the positive side it's quiet, the location is good and the grounds are well tended.
