“West Highland Way”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 25, 2013

As a family, 3 of us hiked the Way usings MACS Adventures. This trip was demanding yet very satifying in terms of bonding and the sights. The Scottish people are fantastic and amongst the friendliest you will meet as a tourist. We met a lot of great and helpful people on the trail and although it was exhausting the 8 days ended too soon for us. The hotels were not 5 Star but everyone of them were very clean and hospitable. MACS Adventure moved our luggage for us without a single issue and were very accesible before the trip and during the trip.

“West Highland Way with Gaia Travel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 12, 2013

We took a guided adventure trip with Gaia Travel. They planned everything for us, right down to the right clothes to wear, what we should eat (for fuel) and accommodation en route.
The scenery was stunning even when it rained. The tracks were surprisingly empty for June. All well signposted. you dont need a guide but it was our choice to book and meet other likeminded women. Our guide, AJ, was friendly, knowledgable and engaging .
Will definitely book another fun trip with them

“Outstanding walk and scenery”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 16, 2013

Two of us aged 68 and 71 spent a hugely enjoyable 8 days completing the walk from 7 October.
We used Gemini Walks to transport our goods and they were excellent. Hotels/B&B's were of variable standard (mostly ordinary), the best by far being Allt na Leven B&B in Kinlochleven. The only map required is the Footprint map for the whole walk shown in great clarity and highly recommended. The most strenuous stage is Glen Coe to Kinlochleven - not so much the Devil's Staircase, but more the 1800' descent down to Kinlochleven. Having done parts of Coast to Coast, Offa's Dyke and Hadrian's Wall we rate WHW a far superior overall experience.

“Ideal for your first long distance trail.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 13, 2013

This was my 4th UK long distance trail and we completed this one in a group of 4, two women and two men, ages 36 - 57. We took 8 days, walking South to North and overnighting in Milngavie, Drymen, Balmaha, Inversnaid, Crianlarich, Bridge of Orchy, Kingshouse, Kinlochleven and Fort William. We found the pace suited us ideally and we wouldn't have wanted to do the trail faster. (I understand the record is 16 hours!)

We had excellent accommodation throughout and plenty of good places to eat and drink. Indeed I put weight on during the walk!

One important piece of advice which we were given en route, by which time it was too late, was not to try and do the trip with two cars. It means huge amounts of driving to maneuver the cars around and one one day that meant 4 hrs driving, which is not what you want after a long days walking. Using the baggage handling service has to make sense on this one.

Not a difficult walk over 8 days with the longest day being the last one. Although some days involved a good climb, and others some rock scrambling, it is well within the averagely fit individuals range, and is very well waymarked.

The weather can obviously be key. We found the end of September to be good temperatures and the schools are back and the midges are gone. Plus the colours of the ferns and heather were great.

We had one bad day of weather with heavy rain but several days of lovely sunshine and everything in between. Good boots and walking gear are absolutely essential. Don't economise here - we saw some shredded feet in pubs along the way which looked like horror shows..
