This restaurant had the gall to advertise in the Herald that it was a top place in Tripadvisor. I suspect they might be writing their own reviews.
I have had three rotten meals here. The first one.had an overcooked lasagne. We were told this was because we has taken so long over our first course!
We went back as guests hoping we had just hit a bad day. Our pasta(hot) was served on a plate(cold) so it soon congealed and became disgusting.Later our grandson was on a fleeting visit and fancied a pizza. Well, they couldn't spoil that could they! They did.The lad told me the mush in the centre was horrid. He was told, snifily, that was how they made them in Italy.

Thank you for your recent review of Andiamo Giffnock.

Whilst we appreciate all guest feedback, it does appear that some of your points are more attacking than constructive.

We are able to advertise as a top place on trip advisor because trip advisor have themselves acknowledged this and our reviews on the whole reflect this. Defamatory claims that we write our own reviews are completely fabricated, you will see that all our contributors are repeat trip advisor responders, you will also notice that not all our reviews are excellent - we accept the good and the bad feedback and act upon it. If we were going to the effort of writing our own reviews do you not think we would have an abundance of excellent responses.

No member of our staff would ever blame a table for burnt lasagne due to guests leisurely enjoying their starters (which you have not mentioned so I can only presume these were enjoyed, as was the other main course dish which has also not been mentioned.) Main courses are not begun until starters are cleared, so it's not like it has been left burning in an oven for you to finish. I think there may be more or less to this issue than the claims.

Our lasagne has a crispy top which we would have been happy to change if you had highlighted at the time that it was not to your liking. In addition, the fact you have not mentioned the other dishes, presumably they were enjoyed therefore referring to this as a "rotten meal" is not exactly a true reflection of your experience.

It is not our standard to serve pasta in a cold plate, and for this I do apologise, however, as all our sauces are freshly prepared using fresh ingredients, it is rare to have any sauce congeal as you mention, however, again if you had highlighted this, we would certainly have replaced your dish for you without a problem.

With regards to your grandsons pizza, we do not overcook our pizzas as we feel this spoils the true authentic flavour, nevertheless if your grandson enjoys his pizza more crispy, then by all means we would be happy to cook it for longer. The softer centre which you mentioned as "mushy" is a combination of the tomato base and natural waters from the mozzarella, so I can't imagine it would taste "horrid" as you mention, perhaps the texture of this was not to the liking of the individual guest. Again if this was mentioned to our staff they would have immediately offered to make you a fresh pizza. Leaving feedback to the end of a meal makes it quite difficult to amend any issues. Our staff are not mind readers and unless guests highlight any issues we cannot be expected to anticipate any problems.

We accept that trip advisor allows guests to leave their own personal opinions positive and negative, we then utilise this constructive feedback to improve our service. Thank you for taking the time to raise certain points.

Andiamo is a well designed, easy on the eye eaterie. The furniture is modern and sleek, and the open kitchen, with the pizza oven roaring away is very enticing. The menu is large and varied and the food is good- but it is perhaps slightly lacking the authentic Italian charm that other Italian restaurants ooze.

We visited for a Sunday lunch and elected to order from the ala carte menu as opposed to the Sunday lunch menu, which in fairness was reasonably priced and had a decent selection of dishes for each course. The ala carte menu is touching on the pricier end of the scale for Italian restaurants in Glasgow (pasta dishes touching £13 in places), though smaller portions are available for slightly lower prices (and are large enough in size to mean value for money).

The site of the roaring oven meant I simply had to go for a pizza, though it fell slightly short of the mark in all honesty. The bread was delicious and appeared to be fresh, though the pizza itself could perhaps have spent a few extra minutes in the oven to give it a crispier, better finish. The base was layered with a lovely, tasty tomato sauce, but due to the aforementioned lack of cooking time, became a bit of a "splodgy" affair in the centre. I opted for the spicy chicken pizza, and this is were my main critique of Andiamo arises; why the need for fine, small pieces of chicken? Once located, the chicken was very tasty and has a nice little kick to it; but there simply was not enough of it and the pieces were just too small and unnoticeable to leave a lasting enough taste.

And this appears to be a trend in Andiamo.

My partner thought her Tagliatelli con Stracci was ok, but commented that was very apparent that the main components of the dish (steak, mushrooms and cherry tomatoes) were all noticeable due to their absence. The ingredients were all far too finely cut and small in size and in quantity, meaning the dish fell short of expectations. The pasta sounded delicious as described on the menu, but when the "cherry tomatoes" consisted of little more than a few grated shards of red dotted throughout the tagliatelli, it is only natural to feel slightly disappointed. It also seems to neglect the rustic, wholesome style of Italian cooking which is loved around the world (and, incidentally, on offer at a couple of other restaurants in and around the Glasgow area).

Service was also rather slow despite the restaurant being fairly quiet when we visited, with no offer for further drinks and a 15minute wait to have a glass of tap water delivered. Furthermore, drinks seem to be a bit of a money maker for Andiamo- I struggled to comprehend the logic when the waitress informed me that they did not serve soda water and lime in pint size servings, despite pint glasses being lined up behind the bar and draught beer being available in such a size. Slightly naughty- especially when the small glass cost £2.

All in all, a stylish and trendy restaurant- but perhaps missing some of the authentic, natural Italian charm which would have me rushing back for more.

Thank you for taking the time to give such a detailed review of your experience within Andiamo Giffnock.

We appreciate all guest feedback as it helps us improve all aspects of our establishment in order to maintain guest satisfaction.

We have never had feedback regarding the ingredients being too finely chopped, however, it is certainly something we will address, it may well have been a one off occasion as this is certainly not the normal and usually we have too much, it is about finding that happy medium so thank you for this comment.

Our wood fired pizza oven has been a roaring success, pardon the pun, and we certainly have not had anyone find fault with the pizzas being undercooked, however, thank you for bringing this to my attention and by all means, if you should wish your pizza a little crispier, please just say and we will make sure it is cooked to perfection for you.

I am sorry that you were refused a pint size glass of soda and lime, I was not aware this was happening and it is certainly something I will be looking into and addressing ASAP. Thank you for highlighting this.

I sincerely hope that you will return soon and allow us to show that we have just as much, if not more, italian charm as other eateries.

Visited this restaurant with a friend for a late lunch last Saturday.
The food was delicious and a la carte portions were served from the lunch menu.
The starters of muscles served in a cream and garlic were cooked perfectly.
The main courses of pizza with Italian sausage and ravioli were great too. All washed down with a glass of Rose. Needless to say we did not eat anything else for the rest of the day.
Service, location and atmosphere all spot on.
Hope to visit again soon.

Thank you for taking the time to review Andiamo. Your comments are a little vague it would be most helpful if you could give me a little more information.

Which dishes did you have? Was there a particular reason you found them just "ok"?

Did you eat off the lunch/pre-theatre or a la carte menu? This is important when regarding the portion size you received, as similarly to all other value menus out there, the lunch and pre theatre are a little smaller in size than a la carte dishes, which is standard throughout most Glasgow restaurants. We certainly have never had a complaint regarding the size of our a la carte dishes which is why I am keen to understand fully.

Booked via 5pm.com on a number of occasions and got great deals for lunch and dinner. There is a great selection of food on offer and service on my recent visits has been great. Lovely pasta and pizza dishes particularly.

This is a lovely venue and is modern and contemporary. The toilets, however, are down some fairly steep stairs so be careful when taking children or any one who has any mobility issues.

Hi Claire,

Thank you for your recent review of Andiamo, with the mention of the stairs, I believe you are reviewing our Hamilton restaurant.

I am delighted to hear you have enjoyed your experience in our Hamilton restaurant.

I appreciate the comment regarding the toilets, we do have a disabled/child friendly toilet located on the same level as the restaurant, if you ask a member of staff next time you are in, they will be only too happy to direct you to this toilet.

I look forward to welcoming you back soon.
