When I see a voucher for La Bonne Auberge, I never hesitate to buy some. I come her often due to the consistency of the great food and service, and yesterday was no exception. We started with the chef made pate, beautiful, unctuous, put through a sieve and silky smooth, a real treat with the onion jam, briochey bread and fresh crunchy salad. (I had pate in Edinburgh's Café Royal last week and it was shop bought, very disappointing!) The duck was beautifully crisp on the outside and tender and moist in the middle, the sticky glaze was not too sweet which normally is a turn off, the chef gets it just right, an interesting salad and purple salad potatoes, which I would love to make myself, consisted of coriander, carrot, mange tout and other lovely greens, makes a change from boring lettuce stack everywhere else. We finished with tea and coffee in the traditional style, no scrimping on the tea bags, lovely full teapot, with wee jug of milk, and chocolate mints. I have said before, that there is a real old fashioned class about this place, and they work hard to keep the food at its very best.... always. Bravo Chef!
