Description: Red Onion is situated in the heart of Glasgow City Centre. The Chef/patron, John Quigley started his career in London’s West End where he quickly established himself and gained a reputation for excellent casual gourmet dining. He then took the opportunity to travel the world as a private chef to many rock stars and celebrities such as Bryan Adams, Tina Turner and The Bee Gees. In 1996 John decided to move back to his hometown – Glasgow to put down roots. In the past 9 years John has opened and established numerous successful restaurants which have achieved international recognition. This year John, along with his wife Gillian, decided to open their own restaurant – Red Onion. Red Onion is open 7 days a week serving food all day from 10am. It is a contemporary casual dining experience that offers something for everyone. John believes in using all the finest natural local produce and combining them with many ingredients and flavours he has experienced on his extensive travels around the world

“Nice enough.”
Reviewed November 3, 2012

The atmosphere was very nice and they were good to seat us since we didn't arrive until after nine. The food was pretty good and the service very good. It's a short walk from City Centre.

“Fish and Chips”
Reviewed October 31, 2012

We loved the fish and chips and the homemade tarter sauce. Service was slow. The hot toddys were good. Cute place and very close to our hotel. I do think it was a tad on the pricey side considering how many great options there are in Glasgow.

“Good Place for food”
Reviewed October 31, 2012

I've eaten here a couple of times after reading some good reviews, I would have walked right past it given the name of the restaurant - not the biggest fan of red onions.

The food is pretty special - beautifully presented and full of flavour.

Nice surroundings and great atmosphere, the one thing I would say about this place is that on the occasions I have eaten there the service has been hit and miss. Not very welcoming on the phone when trying to make a reservation. The food here definitely makes it worth a visit.

“Overpriced”
Reviewed October 27, 2012

Nicely warm feeling to the restuarant. Courteous waiters. However - over-priced for the quality. And we eat out a couple of times a week in Glasgow. For my MAIN course I got 20 mussells. And these were NOT big ones. You can get half a kilo of West of Scotland mussells just down the road in the Mussell Inn for £5.10 and £10.10 for a full kilo. And my wife's sea bass was overcooked/chewy. For the money - if you want fish - a definite no. The other couple enjoyed their meal I have to say. But it wasn't fish.

A Glasgow diner!
