We spent two nights at the curiously-named Alamo Guest House at a lovely in-town location adjacent to the fabulous Kelvingrove Park and near Kelvingrove Museum and the University of Glasgow. Our hosts, Steve and Emma, were warm and welcoming and were constantly there to help us find the best things to do in their fabulous metropolitan city, how to get there, and how to make the best use of our limited time in Scotland's largest city. They guided us to excellent places to eat when we weren't enjoying their wonderful breakfast buffet. Our accommodations were spacious, clean and fully supplied with all possible amenities. Even though the place has a very warm atmosphere, it is filled with outstanding original artwotk. The decor is beautifully decorated. The rooms and ceilings are meticulously hand painted by Steve in amazing colors. We couldn't have had a better experience in an exciting historic city.

Room Tip: This guest house operates on the first and ground floors. Guests with limited mobility should ask f...

Hi, recently returned for third visit to The Alamo as was in Glasgow on business again. The great impression I had from my first two visits was realised again. The place is so welcoming with the owners happy to chat which is great when travelling solo. The period decor is well done with the bathrooms tip top too. Breakfast is help your self from hot plates etc and the hot food, if cooked to order is the only thing that could be bettered.

Location is on a quiet road right by Kelvingrove Park and the tennis is free so pack your racquets. Thanks for a great stay and will be back in August.

This is a very classy establishment run by lovely people! I don't think I've stayed anywhere that feels more like home. Very friendly place, great breakfast, and beautiful Victorian decor. Stunning interior with lovely detailing. Service to a level far beyond what anyone would expect. We had three rooms: a large double with en-suite, and a twin and another large double with access to about three bathrooms downstairs. Upstairs there's an amazing shared bathroom with a large oval bath to which a colleague of mine had candles, bath oil and an ipod delivered by Steve, who I am convinced can telepathically deduce exactly what you want and provide it. It's on a quiet street opposite a park. Very close to a wide variety of good restaurant, coffee shops etc. Sainbury's Local is about 3 mins walk. Travelling string players and drummers, there are two specialist shops just over the main road for you. Absolutely great and highly recommended.

Room Tip: The upstairs room with the curved bath and rain shower is a must for anyone who wants to feel they...

Excellent in all respects, just what I was looking for. Hosts could not have been friendlier, room quiet, comfortable and spacious, breakfast top notch. Would recommend to anyone. A rare solo trip for me, collecting my daughter, but would have no hesitation bringing any of the family here.

Room Tip: The upstairs rooms have a better view of the park.

We had a great time at the Alamo Guest House! Its a great location right near Kelsingrove Park (and within walking distance of Crabshakk and Firebird - yummy!). We splurged on the luxury en-suite room and thoroughly enjoyed it! That bathtub is pretty awesome! It was a bit of a walk to the city centre but enjoyable. It's also a short walk to the Hunterian museum and of course you have the park right there!

Thanks to Steve and Emma (and the boys) for another great stay. The location is perfect if you're interested in checking out the west end of Glasgow and also being within a (relatively) short walk or cab ride from the city centre. The rooms are well-appointed and if you're looking for something that's not there, Steve will ensure that you get it.

It's important to note that the Alamo Guest House is not a hotel and is not able to accommodate early arrivals at 07:30 from the early flight from Newark (for example). Their focus - understandably, and appropriately - is on the in-house guests and ensuring that their breakfast and check-out goes flawlessly. Trust me, as a guest, you'll appreciate the focus and attention. I'd encourage you to do what we did - hang out at the Starbucks at GLA and catch the 747 bus (or a cab) close to 9:30.

Breakfast, room, amenities, location, etc. were all great. This is a perfect location for a home base to check out the Uni and the west end or to enjoy everything else that Glasgow has to offer.

This place is unbelievable--it's a beautiful and beautifully-restored building in a lovely neighborhood (across from a park, near georgian buildings and a variety of restaurants) with high-quality service, but it's very reasonably-priced. The proprietors are very kind and informative, and the service is excellent. I could not have been happier with our stay. (summer 2011, which is apparently not an option in the drop-down menu)
