Headed through to Glasgow one night for something to eat and decided to try Smoak. We hadn't been before and as it was a busy Saturday night (One Direction were playing George Square I believe) we thought it best to book.
We called up and they told us they did have a table however they had a live band on that night so it might be a bit noisy. Not being THAT over the hill yet we accepted the table and headed through.
When we got there we found a staircase taking you into essentially the basement of a pub. It definitely has a bit of a "dive bar" quality about it but we were shown to our table and given a menu. Everything on the menu looked great and it was really hard to choose. Eventually we settled on our meals and the waitress took the order and the band started. It was pretty loud but we were prepared for it thanks to the warning and the band were pretty good. However it was definitely too loud to talk so don't head there on a gig night and expect a natter over dinner.
The food arrived and it was fantastic. The poutine was ridiculously huge and we barely made a dent in it despite sharing. The truffle mac and cheese was literally the best mac and cheese I've ever had (and I've had a lot of mac and cheese!) and the burgers were delicious as well.
Good value, fantastic food and good service. Don't let the dive bar image put you off if that's not your thing (it doesn't bother me and I'd definitely pop in for a drink or two) the food is definitely top quality! A wee hidden gem in the city centre! :)
