“Tasteless food and Very poor service”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 27, 2013

The red wine was served in a dirty glass and had to be returned. The Loaded Skins starter was dried up and required salt to give it any taste. The presentation was non existant without even a single bit of garnish. The Mac & Cheese main course came as a yellow plate of gloop and again proved to be completely tasteless. The restaurant was very quiet but the service was still extremely poor, in fact my presence seemed to be an annoyance to the staff.
One further word of warning: Do not ask for a 'doggy bag' as it comes wrapped in tinfoil and paper bag and not in a sealed container!

“Ok/Good??”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 23, 2013

Visited here a few weeks ago during the week. We both had a burger which was lovely and really quite large portions, we also both had milkshakes which were real homemade Milkshakes and they really were delicious... Although probably not the best idea to have one before a burger as they are very filling. The food was nice and service was good, only downside is the decor/atmosphere inside i felt was just slightly lacking??

“Meh”

I got the pancakes and they were smaller than my hand. If you're going to do american pancakes they've got to be the size of your head!

“Pretty disappointing”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 11, 2013

I had high hopes for the New York Kitchen having heard some positive things about it but my visit was pretty disappointing.

As the sun was shining the front doors were open, which should have created a pleasant atmosphere. However, this has simply attracted chainsmokers who were using the restaurant as somewhere to rest their legs and grab a drink, while filling the air with the smoke. Not a great start.

After moving half way into the restaurant to escape the smoke, we were presented with the menus which looked very tempting. We ordered drinks but were told they were out of root beer (one of the US staples that are key to a themed restaurant like this) and then picked our food. Five minutes later the waitress returned to tell us that the pulled pork (which we'd been particularly keen to try) wasn't ready yet.

When our food arrived the philly cheese steak and pastrami on rye sandwiches were very good and served with a mountain of fries. The pizza base was lovely but the tomato sauce wasn't great. Oreo milkshake was good.

Watching the chef carry black bin bags through the restaurant is never great but the service was ok. The decor is pretty basic, but fine. Atmosphere was lacking (albeit Thursday afternoon is never likely to be buzzing!).

Overall, food was ok but we're unlikely to go back.

“More Bronx than Brooklyn”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 7, 2013

It was a holiday Monday and, because Bibi's was fully booked, we wandered along Dumbarton Road and tried the New York Kitchen.

First impressions were good as it was also reasonably busy and the waiting staff were friendly enough. We ordered burgers and, although they did take a while to show up, portions were good sized and they were tasty. Of ambience, there was none but then it was a lunchtime but it's not helped by the poor decor and fittings. If you're not eating, you're checking out the surroundings, the furniture, the cutlery, etc. and none of it was up to close inspection.

To sum it up, we had no complaints about the food. It wasn't anything special just decent, tasty food but it did take longer than we'd have liked and was a bit more expensive than other places nearby. Would we go back? Maybe but not until we'd tried other places first and definitely not if Bibi's had a table.
