“Glasgow weekend”
Reviewed September 1, 2013

Arrived Friday afternoon - centrally located hotel - automatic doors at frontage - access via buzzer or room card after certain times - strange layout - reception and restaurant are on the second floor - A lot of self service kiosks but checked with young lady on reception - require keycard to operate lifts (quantity of 3) - lifts extremely quick and efficient - were on the 6th floor and literally took 10 secs to reach floor - room numbers are signposted and added security of access doors via keycard - access to room via keycard - can take a wee time to get used to using them - were in room 607 but found room not to have been cleaned - bed was unmade and rubbish still lying around room - advised reception and they immediately changed room to 605 which was prepared - issued new keycards - one keycard used for electricity as per norm these days - there was large double bed - some sort of couch bed - two bedside tables tables , a larger table and chair (where could use a laptop) and wardrobe cabinet with 19 inch tv which had freeview channels - wardrobe was quite small and really should have been bigger - my suit carrier fitted ok but fiancee's dress did not fit so she hung it over a chair. Bed was extremely comfortable and got a good night sleep on both night's - could hear the door opening closing in corridor but only occasionally.

Bathroom had a shower / bath - bit on the small side and the walls of bath were quite high - so someone with mobility issues might have problem getting in and out - no bath mat and only half the bath had ridges to grip feet on - nearly fell coming out of bath - extremely large mirror and sink / lavatory were of normal size - bathroom was spotless with good amount of towels - there were shower gel dispensers on wall and hand sanatizing gel dispenser also.

Had breakfast on both days - advise person serving of room number and name and escorted to table - large choice of hot and cold food - had sausages , bacon , hash browns , toast and orange juice - but have also had choice of eggs (fried , poached or scrambled) , mushrooms , beans , tomato - the normal fried brekkie - good quality and eat as much as you want - large selection of cereal , drinks , muffins and bread - overall money well spent for brekkie.

All the staff extremely young but very willing to help out in any way possible and made it a pleasure to stay - would have marked as 5 if not for initial issue with room - will be using again

When you go in the front the door, the reception is actually on the second floor, only 38 steps away or better to take the lift. This is a good thing which makes you feel safe. After the second floor you need your room key to control the lifts and doors.

You can leave your bags/cases before check in and after check out, always a great bonus if you want to explore one last time. Check out is noon, which also gives you plenty of time to get organised.

Being right in the city centre you would think it would be noisy, but I've never found it to be. And that is the best thing about it, the location. A 2 minute walk from the bus station and Buchanan Galleries. The cineme and numerous eateries on the doorstep. Big rooms, comfy beds and all the friendly staff making you feel welcome.

I doubt I'll ever be organised enough to book far enough in advance to get their £29 rate, but I booked 6 nights about 2 weeks in advance and got an average price of £66 a night (out of curiosity I checked the rates for the same stay a week later and it was about £10 more).

This is an excellently located hotel on the corner of Sauchiehall Street and West Nile Street, about 10 minutes up the hill from Central Station, 5 minutes from Queen Street station, 2 minutes from Buchanan Street Subway station and literally round the corner from Buchanan Bus Station. Also literally next door to the 18-screen Cineworld cinema - I was back in my 7th-floor room literally four minutes after the credits started rolling! If you get one of the higher floor rooms there is no doubt an excellent view of the city (the 7th floor is about on a par with the roof of the Concert Hall over the street).

Check-in was very easy using the automated terminal (a staff member was available to help if you had any problems). You need to swipe your room keycard in the lifts to go higher than the 2nd floor (where reception and the restaurant are), and to open the corridor doors from the lift lobby so security is good. Very comfortable room, spotless bathroom. and 30 minutes free wi-fi per day (surely free wi-fi is something that should be standard these days? I paid £10 for 7 days unlimited wi-fi, which I suppose is acceptable, but I don't think I'd be so happy if I was on the £3 for 24 hours rate). Will have to mark down the hotel slightly for the bathroom - the bath felt slightly slippery under the shower head, and I was surprised there were no rubber bath mats available in the hotel (I did ask - it seems a fairly elementary health and safety issue for those of us who are no longer quite so agile on our feet); water pressure in the washbasin was insufficient to pass my "clear the hairs from my razor blade" test without considerable shaking!

Restaurant serves a nice selection of meals for dinner (open 6 p.m. - 9.45 p.m.) - I would recommend booking a table if you want to eat at 7 p.m., as everybody else seems to want to eat then too, but plenty of tables available later.

All-in-all, I can certainly recommend this hotel and will certainly stay again (though my next planned visit to Glasgow, next Easter, is booked for the Crowne Plaza as I'll be at a convention there - it'll be interesting to compare them!).

This hotel is in a good location for a city break. We arrived by train into Glasgow Central and it is an easy walk up a hill. Check in was easy and the staff were very pleasant and friendly. There is a left luggage facility which is very secure. The hotel was very new when we stayed and was clean and comfortable throughtout (everything you would expect from a Premier Inn). There is a lift to the rooms which can only be accessed with the use of your key card, ensuring added security. We got a really good, paid in advance rate (£69 for 2 nights) over a weekend.
We did not eat or drink at the hotel, so cannot comment on these. The hotel is in close proximity to many bars and restaurants.
We attended a concert at The O2 ABC in Sauchiehall Street which is an easy 10 minute walk from the hotel.
We would definitely stay here again when visiting Glasgow.

Room Tip: High floors offer good views over the city - property has 3 lifts

I booked an 8 night stay at this hotel as my daughter was on a course in Glasgow. The hotel is situated right in the heart of the city. From our room on the 14th floor we enjoyed fabulous views across the city and of the busy shopping areas below. The hotel seemed very new, the room clean with a floor to ceiling window. I was pleasantly surprised that the room was so quiet. We did not eat in the restaurant as there are many restaurants in the surrounding streets. Would happily return to this hotel.

The hotel is well positioned in a good area close to Queen Street (ScotRail) and Glasgow Central Railway Stations and nearby shops and restaurants. There are three efficient lifts with security features preventing use by non-residents. The dining room is pleasant and there is a good choice of food for dinner and breakfast, at reasonable prices. The lighter choice breakfast menu was just up my street. I had to pay for my dinner when leaving the restaurant and for my breakfast before sitting down; the costs could not be added to my hotel bill. However, this was no problem. The 15th floor bedroom was quiet, clean, large and comfortable and had a nice view of Sauchiehall Street and beyond. As I had booked some time ahead using the 'Saver' tariff, my room cost was low. All in all, I was very pleased with my one night's stay.
