“Good experience with a great location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 28, 2013

My travelling companion & myself stayed here for 6 days after having attended a wedding in Ullapool & a sightseeing trip to Oban. Upon arrival the front desk clerk ( I wish that I could recall his name as he was helpful & so pleasant throughout our stay) was very welcoming & had us quickly checked in. He called & arranged for a tour with Charlie of Discover Scotland tours which picked us up at the door in the AM.We were so thankful as we had limited days to see as much as we could& Charlie was great. We were in a twin room, the room was nice but the beds were a little close. Nice B/R with large shower (no bath). The breakfast was included & was good. I wish there would have been a pay telephone in the lobby, as we were using one with our calling cards. We did use the pay phone at the next door Holiday Inn but still being a 2 females travelling & trying to call around the time change to Canada., it would have been better to call from our own lobby. The location was super we walked to many sights, shopping & many am used tto the quiet of a farm on Canada. Would recommend.

Room Tip: We liked being on the same floor as the breakfast room. Had our breakfast would gather our things &a...

You know what you get when you stay in a HIexpress, what makes this one better than the bog standard box?
Location & staff.
Ideal location for city centre, just on the edge of all the action, which makes it nice and quiet.
What makes it really stand out is the friendly funny staff, from check in to the room cleaners, all with a friendly smile & a warm good morning.
Front desk were helpful & asking after my plans,

Visited HIEX last week-end. I have used HIEX in the past so knew what to expect. Location here is excellent. Room very clean, and bed comfortable. Only problem I had was the constant drone from air-conditioning outside 24 hrs a day. Also I had heard the underground trains thundering every 10 minutes. I should say this was at back of hotel on the fifth floor. Breakfast plentiful, though first morning there was no cooked food until 8.00am. I overheard conversation as to reason why. Someone hadn't turned in for work. This meant food was delayed. The staff are constantly replenishing the food and are kept busy. At times the breakfast area is not big enough as and when there are groups it is difficult to find a table. The free wi-fi is good, though you have to get the codes at reception.

Dear Reviewer,

Many thanks for your review regarding your recent stay.

I was disappointed to hear about your breakfast experience on the first morning and have since addressed this with the team. Unfortunately with regards to the underground, we are a city centre hotel and the underground runs right through the city. I am investigating the air conditioning noise at the moment with my maintenance team. We review all comments positive and constructive to help us continually improve on our guests' experience.

We hope to see you back here in Glasgow in the near future.

Not a bad walk from Central Train Station. Great hot breakfast. Could not have asked for anything more from George at the front desk. Went above and beyond like a concierge in a fine hotel from meal suggestions to tour planning.

I usually stay at the Holiday Inn next door when visiting Glasgow on business, but due to the HI being fully booked, I stayed in the express next door. I was pleasantly surprised with the standards of the hotel and after requesting a room higher up in the building, I had a very quiet night.

There is not a restaurant on site, yet the 'Di Maggios' restaurant next door allows you to charge your meal back to your room (ideal when work are footing the bill). The breakfast is quite simple, although ideal for a quick getaway in the morning.

Overall, I was very pleased with the stay given the proximity to our offices, the town centre, Buchannan Galleries and the Cineworld cinema. I would definately stay here again.

Room Tip: Road noise can be an issue, so ask for a higher floor.

My wife, son and I stayed here for two nights in April. The room was somewhat small but it worked well for the three of us. One nice touch - they prepare the pull-out sofa bed for you before you arrive.

Breakfast was included in the price and was pretty good. It consisted of continental selections plus a few hot dishes. We booked directly with the hotel and got a very reasonable rate.

The only issue that we had related to advice that we received from the front desk. I checked with them twice re some questions and got bad advice each time. Other than that, everything was fine.
