“Will not be back....”
Reviewed October 18, 2010

We booked this hotel as a stop off on our way down south. Finding a hotel in the centre of Glasgow with onsite parking is not as easy as you think and when this came up i put car parking ahead of comfort.....won't be so hasty next time!!
The check in was straightforward and we were situated on the first floor, room 103. The corridor had a musty smell . Our room was rather small , with a very large bed (think this was 2 singles put together) Was clean( first thing hubby checked !).
Our bathroom was tiny, even the door opened outwards as there was no room to open it inward! Our bathroom cealing had a huge hole in it, think the size a body could get through! The shower was feeble to say the least.
Didn't get a wink of sleep as the hotel is not double glazed and you are situated on a busy street.
The whole place could benefit from a complete upgrade from top to bottom.
Only plus of this hotel was the parking. Although our hotel price inc breakfast we couldnt wait to leave and didn't attempt the food.

Having just spent 15 minutes complaining to an unhelpful, rude and aggressive manager who took no responsibility for any our issues I would strongly recommend that you avoid the Devencove Hotel at all costs.
On the subject of costs, be warned, whilst £49 for two nights is a great deal, they apparently feel it is okay to change the costs on arrival regardless of your booking.
When we arrived and were told the exorbitant rates we were now obliged to pay, understandably we questioned the change, eventually, given no other choice, we agreed but mysteriously our room number changed. We went from a third floor, rear facing double room to one which was first floor and main road facing. On top of this, the bathroom was unfinished, mould was abundant, the hairdryer didn't work and the wall paper was peeling (of course, this wasn't the hotel managers fault!)
With regards to fire-safety this is apparently irrelevant, with breakfast service happily continuing through a fire alarm while the rest of us wait outside for any member of staff to advise as to what is going on.
When I spoke, surprisingly politely, to the manager and eventually had to settle for the contact details of her supervisor I was told that "It didn't bother" her.
I would think that the above should bother any self-respecting Hotel Manager!!

After in-depth investigation, we find this review to be based on unfound accusations and uncompleted information.

The writer has tried to use a stolen credit card to book the hotel. When the travel agent found out about that, we were told to cancel their reservation which we did. However, the couple arrived very late in the night, they managed to produce ID as well a valid debit card to pay for the stay so we did their reservation as a walk-in thus the change of rates and the change of rooms.

When the fire alarm went off in the morning, all the residents were informed within a short span of time (after sufficient investigation was carried out by the supervisor) that it was a false alarm and to continue as normal which led to the observation that people were still having breakfast while they probably did not pay attention or did not understand the staff.

Also the remark about our manager not being self-respecting was discriminatory and insulting. We were more than professional towards the guests, however we are not here to be abused (verbally or otherwise). In this instant, to say the guest was more than abusive and patronising in attitude and behaviour would have been an understatement.

My wife and I have just spent a very pleasant 4 night stay at the Devoncove Hotel.
It is idealy located in a nice part of the city regular bus services out side the door going to all the popular locations. It is a budget range Hotel and good value, the staff were all well motivated and helpful. The hotel only provides Bed and Breakfast the breakfast was good and nicely served. Loads of reasturants within 5 minuites walk so dinner not a problem. Clearly the hotel is well used but our room was spacious and comfortable we would recommend it to anyone. there are candid pictures on the web relating to this hotel these are not what we experienced or saw so donot be put off.

The hotel had been refurbished downstairs to an adequate standard but the rooms although clean & comfortable needed some TLC. The curtains & carpet were stained in various places & the bath had black mould around the edge. The room was cleaned daily & the bed was comfortable. The downside was we were at the front of the hotel which was very noisy as it is on the main road on a main bus route with the bus stop directly outside & the curtains didn't stop the light coming in. Despite the noise from the street into the early hours it didn't prevent us personally from sleeping. The breakfast was good with a mixture of cooked & continental. Overall for what we paid we were satisfied but if your looking for luxury or quiet this is not the place for you. Good location for the money we paid & the staff were accomodating & pleasant on the reception although in the breakfast room some of the staff were a little stand offish on occassions. Over all comfortable & somewhere to rest your head on a night. I wouldn't recommend any length of stay here but good for a few nights away

We got this at the last minute for one night at a very reasonable rate for such a location. Reviews for similar hotels in the area were appalling and though I'd agree that the reception area is very flash in comparison to the rooms (or the staircase from reception area to the rooms - yikes!!) the rooms could have been a lot worse. Our bed was bearable and the wondows let in a lot of noise - but then again it is a very busy area of Glasgow! Bit disappointed with the shower as its holder was loose and water went all over the floor if we didn't just hold the shower head ourselves. This may have led to the mould around the bath but again - it could have been a lot worse. When we reported the shower problem the next morning the concierge was very apologetic...not apologetic enough to offer any money back...but never mind. I would go back...if they'll have us! Sometimes these places are a work in progress...and it certainly has potential!

Just returned from a weekend in Glasgow, booked this hotel for a great price including breakfast so wasn't expecting much. Great location only 10 mins walk into town , loads of restaurants and bars on the way. Reception good, nice lounge and bar, staff also great and really pleasant(even had a burst pipe to deal with when checking us in). Breakfast and dining area really nice , food good. Choice of cereals, yoghurt, fruit , ham , cheese, juice and cooked breakfast. Room okay just needs new bed..really uncomfortable, bed-cover looks a little old too. Can be noise from the road at night/early hours at front of hotel. Room does have hairdryer, heated towel rails, kettle and tea/coffee. If improvements carry on this will be quite a decent hotel and I would stay again (and obviously pay more). Overall good value.

The room was average with a very lumpy uncomfortable bed. The TV was hardly watchable. Breakfast was OK if a little unfriendly on the service side. WiFi was inaccessible in the room and had to go to the lobby to access the Internet.
