“Basic hotel, handy for museums and west end”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 9, 2014

This hotel was in a great position for the Kelvin Grove Museum, Art Gallery and the west end. Very basic hotel, clean and tidy but with no finesse or quality. Met up with some colleagues for an evening meeting and were served coffees with the spoons in the cups, which were possibly the strongest coffee ever tasted. Rooms very plain and basic.

The welcome was nice, reception was being painted so no bar open. Carpet in the lift stained. We got in our room and the initial impression wasn't great, on getting settled and putting the TV on there was no sound so I rang receptionist who came up quite fast and fixed it however I pointed out that my quilt was disgusting as it had two slits at the top and the actual quilt inside which was on view was filthy grey, ripped and had hairs on it. I was told there were no spare ones and he brought a clean quilt cover!!! He was about to end his shift so did not resolve my issue hence I slept with no cover. There were stains on the walls and bed bases and the bin pedal was broken. On the whole it was horrendous!

Hotel seemed nice from outside and photos.
Room was very dark with no proper lighting.

Bathroom was tiny and in need of a freshen up. Stains and very dirty and grubby looking.

Floors all uneven and very run down looking.

Stayed here on the 22nd April and we found the staff to be very nice and extremely helpful. Rooms were spotless and spacious. Beds were very comfortable and the rooms had Lovely high ceilings with sash windows. The Hotel is in an excellent location as it's minutes walk away from the city centre, museums and the westend. Therefore I would recommend it to anyone.

Location was a fab spot, £39 for a double was reasonable, but..we would rather have paid triple for somewhere cleaner, less grotty & more up to date, which made for an uncomfortable stay. Dirty unhygienic cushions on the bed etc.
A tip for the hotel, at least give the reception area a thorough paint job, walls grubby & reception staff looked in need of a shower. Never again.

Having stayed here a couple of times before, £39 for a double with breakfast in a favourable location is excellent but now, refurbished, the place takes on a new charisma. WiFi in the room was excellent, all aspects have undergone tremendous improvement (that is apart from someone entering my room with the same key code card as mine. A mistake at reception) [No donkey jokes please]
only one point to the owners/management. parking (I appreciate its not your fault) its selfish irresponsible carefree persons who cant park their vehicle in a tidy and courteous manner (cars taking the space of two) Maybe if allocated lines were drawn out in the car park (like the supermarkets)
all in all much better
