“Signs of bygone glory”
Reviewed July 14, 2013

The best things about the Devoncove were location, high ceilings in the bedroom and the breakfast. My room faced Sauchiehall Street and because of the lovely warm weather I needed to keep the window open. This meant it could be quite noisy at all times of day and night. The walls seemed thin as well as I could hear people coming and going and talking in surrounding rooms. The room was very well appointed for the price and the room attendants did a fantastic job of servicing the room each day. While the bathroom had been renovated it suffered from the mouldiness quite common in the UK. Apart from the tiling grout looking too dark, the bathroom was well cleaned. The free wifi was weak at times and in fact dropped out all together for almost 24 hours. The breakfast was good, typical English breakfast with the addition of plate of cheese. Fruit was good, although tinned. It would be good to have a fan and a small bar fridge in the rooms.

Room Tip: Something away from Sauchiehall Street

I've now stayed in the Lorne, the Argyll and the Devoncove. They're like three sister hotels, side by side on Sauchiehall Road, and I've been pleased with my stay in each one.

I booked last minute (as I always do) and the one outstanding feature is service from the moment of checking in to leaving. I needed change for parking - not a problem, and they even said that there was a free space in the hotel car park.

The room was high ceiling, modern, clean and even though it faced the main road it was quiet.

Parking is free after 6pm on the street but it does fill up.

The bathrom needed some TLC but that was a minor point.

I'd stay again.

Stayed here for one night on 3rd July. We were early for check in but leaving our bags wasnt a problem. Friendly, helpful front desk staff.

The room and bathroom were a bit of the small side but we were only here for one night for a concert so we didnt spend a lot of time there. The room was spotless and the beds were comfortable. No shortage of hot water in the bathroom.

The bar was still open when we returned to the hotel well after midnight, it would have been rude to not take advantage of this.

Breakfast was more than adequate and my only complaint about the hotel is the coffee. I dont know what brand it was but it tasted like a cheap chicory blend. It was horrible.

The hotel is a bit of a distance from the centre of Glasgow but there is a bus stop just up the street a little bit and across the road.

I wouldnt hesitate to stay here again.

The tiles, sealant & grout around the bath were pink and black with mould. The shower curtain was covered with something that could have been mould or cobwebs. The shower ran from scotching hot to lukewarm and didn't settle down. The bathroom smelled strongly of something stale/smoky when we first went into the room which could have been smoke but on second thoughts could more likely just be the dirty conditions or drains since the sink was very slow draining. The toilet seat lid was stained with something that was hopefully just tea or coffee...

The windows didn't do much to block out the busy street noise, the mattress was old, lumpy and hard so woke up feeling rather stiff and grumpy! Overall the room felt rather grubby and worn but the sheets and towels felt clean enough.

Upon checking out and payment we reported this to the reception staff only to be told that since we didn't report it straight away they might assume the stale/smoky smell was caused by us. We would have reported these things straight away but we had a busy evening ahead and didn't check the bathroom - should it even be our responsibility to check whether the room is dirty or not?
Not impressed, especially when there are cheaper hotels with higher standards in the same location. Will book elsewhere next time.

Room Tip: Go elsewhere.

Stayed in Devoncove Glasgow during last leg of our Scotland trip in March end 2013. Hotel is ok for one night stopover. Hotel has good reception and guest area. Wifi Internet was good.
Hotel parking is an issue, it does not have adequate parking area. Location of hotel is good, several restaurant are around.
Breakfast provided was fresh and up to mark. Though Hotel can improve on cleanliness.

Room Tip: Better to have road facing room though it doesn't make any difference.

have stayed here before and it was ok, very nice this time check in was quick and easy, room was big and airy, not much of a view but you are in the center of Glasgow. Room was cleaned and towels replaced everyday and you can eat as much as you want at breakfast, and now has free wifi in every room. Will definitely stay again.

Room Tip: ask for a room at the back they are quieter.
