Ate at this hotel on Wednesday 14th May 2014................wife treated herself to 6oz steak from the menu at an additional cost of £7.50. We have never in our lives ever been presented with a dish that contained not only such a small steak but only ONE MUSHROOM and ONE SMALL HALF TOMATO and a SMALL basket of chips...............speak about being mean !.......complained to the senior on duty who was more interested in getting paid for the extras we had ordered ( including £1.00 for blob of ice-cream to enhance the dry profiteroles served for the sweet ) than listening to her customers complaint............although we had a lovely self service breakfast the next morning where I could have piled "tonnes" onto my plate the attitude the night before was pathetic and downright rude and therefore spoilt our stay ! ( room 321 if the management are even interested ! )

This hotel restaurant gets very, very busy with coach full of tour groups but we were lucky and booked a table and got served ahead of the arrival of big parties.
A 3 course set dinner menu (at around 20 £, great value) offers a great mix of savoury dishes, classics with some twists. All very tasty. My girl friends at the table loved the puddings... Highly recommended. Very nice and professional service.

Went along on 3 Jan 2013 for their pre-theatre deal prior to visiting the panto at the Pavilion. I had rung ahead to see if they still accepted the Gourmetcard and was told that it was fine. The restaurant itself is very nice and absolutely huge and as we were there at 5.30 at opening time, were the first in. Only 2 other groups joined us before we had to leave so there were more staff in the restaurant than customers to be sure. Most people seemed to be enjoying the bar menu instead. We were able to use it for the 3 course deal and got it on a 50% off food basis. Not much choice on menu but very nice food. We both had soup to start and it was cream of corgette and celery. Unusual but on a cold evening, it was rather welcomed. I opted for the fish dish which was fish + chips + very nicely served. Very nice for sure. My husband David swithered on fish but chose to pay the £7.50 supplement and have the sirloin steak. Ernest, the waiter, advised that they were rather famous for their steak deals here. When it arrived (very well done as requested), you could have put it in your eye it was so small! Surprisingly though, David said it was delicious but just not enough of it. I think if there had been 3 on his plate, it would have been enough. I had the cheese and oatcakes for desert and David had a very nice cheesecake. All in all pretty good though £6.75 for a glass of wine and £4.50 for a budweisser is really expensive, but it is a hotel. Would return for another visit sometime. Cheers. Janice Xx
