“Great value hotel in central location”
Reviewed October 21, 2013

We booked a triple room for a 1 night stay in Glasgow to attend a concert at the O2 academy. We weren't expecting much for the price we paid but the next day all agreed it was an excellent hotel and in future we wouldn't even need to look elsewhere. Its as central as you can get being only 2 mins from central station,we were a 10 minute walk to the O2 academy. We arrived early and were allowed to leave our luggage in a secure luggage room, once in the room there was bottled water, biscuits, tea and coffee making facilities,an iron and iron board and a hairdryer plus all the complementary shampoos etc.Its an old Victorian building with thick walls so you don't hear noise from other rooms, our room was on the street side and we weren't bothered by noise at night, the decor is slightly dated but we all thought that added to the character. The breakfast was simply the best I have had in any hotel, there was a contenental option, fruit and a full Scottish breakfast buffet. If you are looking for a good value central hotel I cannot recommend this place enough.I am already looking to book again.

Booked this hotel for a 'cheapy' overnight stay in Glasgow for £48 for 2 of us with brekkie, and found it to be really quite a pleasant stay. From outside, the hotel does not look particularly impressive, but once inside I was pleasantly surprised. Reception staff were very welcoming, The 'twin' room had a double bed and a single bed. It was really quite spacious and the bathroom was lovely. There was complimentary tea & coffee plus biscuits and 2 bottles of water. The bar area looked great, very 'olde worlde' with huge sofas and high ceilings. The breakfast was superb. Plenty of choice. The hotel location is brilliant. 2mins from central station when coming out via the Argyle St exit. Shops only a few hundred yards away. Bars only 10yds away. Nice Wetherspoons close by. Lovely bar on opposite corner as part of Radissons hotel but not as dear for drinks as Radisson's hotel bar. Brilliant curry house next to Artto hotel. They do a buffet which is really very good with loads of choice. Had a great meal in Aria café bar which is actually in the Artto hotel. Got 2 main courses and a bottle of wine for £14.99. Great value. So this cheapy overnight stay was actually great. Lovely hotel. Lovely staff. Great location.

We stayed at this hotel as it has great location and is very budget friendly. The room we stayed in was tired and ol. Could really use some renovation. The bed linen and other furnishings were extremely old and worn out. The only upside to this hotel was its location. Wouldn’t recommend it.

Stayed there at weekend and won't be back. General state of hotel was very poor. carpets and stairways were dirty , torn and worn . For a big hotel we never saw any cleaning in progress at all Room window didn't close properly, net curtain at window filthy, lumpy matress with springs popping every time you moved in it, no mattress protector on bed , and duvet too small for bed. Radiator made thumping noise all night and eventually had to turn it off for duration of stay. Towels worn , thin and past there best, floor tiles in bathroom badly cracked and litter in hallways lay all weekend. Insist on checking room out before paying any money if staying at this hotel as some rooms have been refurbished whilst others are awful, witnessed by complaints at reception and people moving from floor to floor with luggage, probably why reception staff indifferent

Room Tip: Insist on viewing room before paying for your stay

Stayed there this weekend. Parking wasn't very good.a fair walk away however hotel did give money off voucher,it is covered for 24 hrs but not sure if you can use 2 vouchers as the receptionist wasn't very helpful and bordering on rude. steep stairs and the one lift took an age. Room was small and was unfinished. Skirting boards were missing and the carpet under the bed was disgusting hence the review for cleanliness. The Stair carpet looked dirty too. Breakfast was very poor quality and self service buffet. The hotel was Central and the Thai restaurant next door was great and open until midnight. Wouldn't go back to this hotel. It wasn't expensive but manners and a decent hoover cost little to improve the hotel.

We stayed at the Alexander Thomson Hotel for one night at the beginning of our two week vacation.

It was great that we were able to leave our luggage hours before we actually checked into the hotel. As well, we were able to leave our luggage the next day as we explored the city before we needed to head up to the airport.

The hallways were a big dingy...but we were very pleased with our room. It was clean and suited our needs. The bed was comfortable and the washroom was clean and modern.

Breakfast was very good the next day and quite plentiful.

In terms of location if was fantastic! So close to Central Station and not too far from main shopping areas.

We would stay again should we ever find ourselves in Glasgow.
