“Fantastic atmosphere”
Reviewed March 26, 2013

Always heard about how good the shopping is on Buchanan Street.. and it's really true! It isn't exactly mind-blowingly different from any other shopping street but it definitely still has it's charm and a lovely atmosphere. Walking down the whole stretch was quite enjoyable. A good selection of shops as usual.. also with the new opening of some stores such as Forever 21 really livened up the mood!

From Edinburgh Waverley Stn. to Glasgow Queen or Central stations is about 40 minutes, so it is nothing at all to nip from one great city to another...without leaving the main shopping districts of either...It's like you've just taken a 40 minute break, because when you step off the train at Queen St. Station, to your immediate right are the well-endowed pedestrian precincts of Buchannan Street and Sauchiehall Street. And in front of you - as you stand at the station entrance - is Mechant City (also accessible from 1/2 way down and left Buchannan Street). (Central Stn. - much nicer - is 1/2 way down and right on). This area is choc-a-bloc with all the major high street shops. Buchannan St. Galleries (top of street, 2 mins. from stn.) is an indoor mall on a couple levels and incl. John Lewis). Near the bottom left of Buchannan St. is Princes Square - it's not easily visible (there is overhead arty signage) - but is a square behind a block of buildings that has been covered over and - on several levels - houses shops and restaurants. Very nice. Across the street and up Mitchell Lane is the famous Lighthouse art centre, while at the bottom right of Buchannan is a massive Frasers...fashion, homewards, furnishings, hi-fi...all under one roof. This area can be mayhem on sunny weekend days...but it's fun. And if it all becomes too much, jump on the local underground and go out to HIllhead, for shopping, food and other delights on Byers Road (plus the Botanical Gdns.). Or bugger it all and head to Edinburgh.

Love coming down here. It's a must see in Glasgow. Bustling and vibrant on the weekends with lots of shops and restaurants and great people watching. Has some wonderful street artists...must check out the drums and pipes band, Clanendonia, if you're here on a Sat or Sun!

Absolutely love Buchanan Street with all its fabulous shops, some of them designer shops. There is a Frasers at one end and it is a very old building but magnificent. Even if you don't like shopping it is well worth a look and walk round or maybe a coffee etc.. They also have a champagne bar which is lovely. At the top end is the Buchanan Street Centre with lots of shops and a beautiful John Lewis. They also have a large car park which is all under the same roof so on a rainy day it is perfect.

“The main shopping street”

It's not a bad place for shopping so long as you don't expect too much. There are the normal high street shops & off the little streets you'll find your designer labels. Happy shopping..
