“best option for the conference centre”
Reviewed September 20, 2010

Nice, bright and contemporary hotel, set in stunning riverfront location. Really quiet at night. Staff all super helpful (except for young man on the desk - repeatedly grumpy) though generally badly trained.

Well sited bar and restaurant, really relaxed for solo travellers. Also saw couples there.

Much better option than the tired corporate Crowne Plaza which is a tiny bit nearer the conference centre but not nearly so nice.

A couple of gripes - there was a huge stain on my carpet. The pillows and the duvet were ridiculously thin and the mattress was poor quality too.

The arrangment with the imacs is odd as you can either use the computer or watch the telly, not both.

No radio alarm.

And breakfast was poor quality too - the cheapest bread and catering pack jams. At the height of the Scottish berry season the fruit salad was sad mix of underripe apples and imports.

Nice place indeed. Stayed on the 5th floor overlooking the Clyde. Very quiet and calm. My partner and I like to walk, but if one does not have a car or use taxis, then it's a bit remote. It's not in the city center, but one mile walk and you're in the city, or much less and you can hop a train (from the conference center stop). Our room was very elegant (not very large though, but that's not an issue with us). Fantastic shower, sparkling bathroom (literally!) and iMacs in the rooms even. Very nice decor.

I thought it a very fine place to recharge after a busy day.

The location is excellent as it is close to shops and the central station. I enjoyed walking inthe surrounding area. The staff was efficient and friendly and I made good use of the free wifi. I would say that it is an excellent base both for leisure and business.

A VERY NICE HOTEL WITH NICE TOUCHES, FREE WIFI, IMACS IN THE ROOM WITH MEDIA CENTER, SKYPE AND TV.

The staff are not too friendly which is disappointing. The pillows were really really really bad!

`free access to an excellent gym, which is off site but very close was great. Should have used it more often!

The location is perfect for the SECC, but they RAMP up the price during the week of the conference so value wasn't the best.

I had stayed at City Inn Glasgow once before on a personal trip in the past. I was that pleased with the place that when I had to work for a week in Glasgow it was my first choice of place to stay!!

Some would say its a gimmick, but the best thing i like about this hotel are the iMacs in the bedrooms. Feature packed and they have great media integration with the hotel.

Rooms were very clean and room service was good.. maybe a knock before entering the room would be nice though :)

There was a concert on at the SECC one the nights i was there - this followed with a rather noisy crowd passing / loitering outside my room. It was noisy, but not worthy complaining about.

Overall, i was happy and would return again.

I spent a night in Glasgow at the very end of May, as I had a flight out of Scotland the next day, and decided to see a little bit of Glasgow while I was at it. I booked an advance purchase room with breakfast for a great price and had a wonderful experience at the City Inn.

The hotel was compact but well appointed. Front desk staff were friendly, and check in and check out were easy. The hotel is next to the River Clyde, and my upper floor room had a pleasant view looking out onto the water (just as I requested!).

The room was compact as well, perhaps a bit too compact, but again everything was well appointed. The iMac entertainment system was novel and very much appreciated, and its all-in-one design helped maximize the free space available inside the room. The bathroom was clean and well laid-out.

I found the breakfast experience a bit confusing, as it was semi-buffet and semi-waiter service. However, the food and drink were good and the riverside setting was relaxing.

The only issue I had with the hotel was access to its location. I liked being on the water and knew that the City Inn was between the central business district and the west end, but it was not easy to reach on public transport. (But that's the fault of Glasgow's poor public transport and not the City Inn, for the record.) I had to walk to/from here, which was fine during my stay but a bit tedious upon arrival and departure with luggage.

Overall, I recommend the City Inn while visiting Glasgow. It's a nice place!

Stayed for two nights and was very impressed. Having free wifi and Imacs in each room was fantastic. The location of the hotel is a 15 minute walk from Central Station along the River Clyde. Really helpful and courteous staff, would not hesitate to recommend.
