Good 4 night stay at the hotel. Granted the surroundings are a bit severe, rooms at the front overlook a bit of waste ground used as a car park and rear rooms overlook the River Clyde and the modern ugly glass BBC & STV buildings. Very near the SECC & new Hydro Entertainment centre which are less than 5 minutes walk & near the Tall Ship. City Centre is within walking distance, it would probably take a good 30-45 minutes walking briskly but there is a bus stop right outside the hotel. The rooms are very clean, functional and the Apple IMAC which doubles as a TV and computer is a very nice touch and extremely useful if staying for work or leisure. There is also free Wi-Fi. Bed comfortable, bedding & towels very clean and good quality. Tea & coffee making facilities in the room and the added bonus of a useable fridge is very welcome (well done Hilton for doing away with the dreaded useless & overpriced minibar and allowing guests a small fridge for cold drinks & water etc). There are drinks and snacks available to purchase near reception if required. Was a little worried when checking in as it seemed very busy so was slightly concerned about noise levels but the sound proofing in the rooms was adequate and had no real problems with noise from other guests arriving back late. Was slightly disappointed our request for a river view could not be granted (only available at additional cost) so room was at the front of the hotel but perfectly fine. Coaches picking up guests at the front can be a bit noisy early morning but was only one day of the trip so not a big problem. Car parking available at side of hotel, £5 overnight which is reasonable or £3 at the waste ground car park opposite (check prices before you park though). Hotel can be a little hard to find as the road signs leading to the hotel are very confusing (City Council take note, bus lanes signs are also badly worded and it is really difficult to gauge whether you are within them or not, this badly needs sorting out as you can very easily stray into them due to the terrible signage and incur a huge fine). Staff were very friendly and helpful which is a great plus. The restaurant is the normal generic hotel type and there is a really nice deck outside weather permitting. The smokers pole outside the main hotel doors is a bit off putting, never a great impression with people huddling around it puffing away but that is not really the hotel's fault and is a minor point. Inside the hotel it is all non smoking although we think someone had been smoking in the room we were allocated before we arrived but that is also not the hotel's fault if people won't comply, left the windows open for a couple of hours so the smell dissipated. Obviously this is a chain hotel and they do tend to be a bit soulless and impersonal but staff strived & succeeded in providing a personal touch and what more could you want from a City Centre hotel other than convenient location, nice, clean rooms and an Imac to boot. All in all found it to be great value, had a pleasant stay and would definitely stay there again and would not hesitate to recommend it to family and friends. Well done Hilton.
