“Great Spanish Art Collection”
Reviewed March 13, 2013

A magnificent house, set within Pollok country park. The rooms are packed with lavish furnishings, that give you a feel of how life would have been to live there. The walls are adorned with stunning Spanish art. The surrounding gardens I imagine will look amazing in the summer, as with the white cart water running across the back of the house, an ideal place for a picnic.

“Hidden Gem and "Must See" for Art and History buffs”
Reviewed February 25, 2013

One of the best stately home tours I have ever been on. Went with a party of five, for lunch and a look around. We ate first in the Edwardian basement cafe. Met immediately by a smiling waitress, and shown to a decent table. Spotless throughout - it reminded us of the ancient kitchens of a convent we knew from childhood. Excellent onion soup and olive bread. Others had open sandwiches. Not huge portions, but that suits me.

As it is February, the house upstairs was free to visit. (I believe there is a charge from April to October. A school party had bagged a couple of rooms, which was a pity, but can't complain as the visit was free. We had a most excellent, smart and knowledgeable gentleman guide with an encyclopaedic knowledge of the exhibits, and European history in general. Now I thought I was a bit of a history neek, but he was able to hold forth on the Hapsburgs, the obscurer points of the Stuart succession, and could name all the characters in Blake's painting of the Canterbury Tales. He could wipe the floor with the Eggheads.

My friend (a fellow teacher) is bringing an American friend there next month, and I would highly recommend it to locals and visitors alike. It is not far from the City centre hotels AND is walking distance from the Burrell Collection. There is also an excellent shop - better than Holyrood's in my opinion, with more genuine Scottish goods.

Out for a walk at POLLOK PARK,we deceided to pop in to Pollok House i had been there years ago and wanted to show my friend the place. We were greeted at the door by a well dressed gentleman who in a lovely scottish voice suggested a route for us to go.After looking around the fantastic house we stopped of at the tea-room for lunch ,there you will find a good menue something for everybody. We were served by a friendly waiter ,food was very nice and presented well, the tea-room was very busy and this was a dull day in Febuary .The grounds at Pollok Park are well kept and there are lot's of paths leading to intersting walks, tons to explore.Children would love this place,i will be going back soon to enjoy the place again.
