Dropped in here to do some research on family history and found the staff very helpful. They go out of their way to help and explain how to get the most out of your visit, thank you all.

The Mitchell has long prided itself on being one of the biggest and most comprehensive municipal libraries you could hope to find anywhere. It's also a fabulous building (the original part), hosts lots of functions such as Glasgow's AyeWrite book festival, contains a theatre, runs exhibitions and has a spacious cafe, and has an amazing photographic archive. The place to begin if you want to know about local history.

The Mitchell Library is amongst the largest libraries in the World so it is well worth a visit if you are a bookie type person or if you just want to find information on something. The building itself is very impressive. The only problem is that it is hard to get an unobstructed view of it because of the motorway in front of it.

A well stocked archive on the history and development of Glasgow. Old photos and newspapers(on film) for viewing. Staff very willing and helpful. Make sure you allow plenty of time for research.
