Owner description: Often described as "Scotland's Most Beautiful Distillery", Glengoyne is open all year for guided distillery tours, whisky tastings and special events. Just a short drive from Glasgow, Stirling and Loch Lomond, this traditional, hard working distillery has been flourishing since 1833. Glengoyne's range of in-depth distillery tours, whisky tasting sessions, private dining and unique hospitality includes the legendary Master Blender tour where guests create their very own individual whisky to take home.

Having taken the tour earlier in the summer, we were intrigued by the setting and grounds of the distillery. We returned on a lovely day to be met by what can only be described as parking wardens in plaid... Staff within the distillery are courteous and polite. The wardens were too, up to the point where we were informed that unless we wanted to take another tour we were unable to park anywhere near the distillery. They had paid for a lay by to which non tour visitors are directed. This was full so we had to drive further half mile away and walk back. Despite at least a dozen spaces available in the car park we were moved on. Polite, yes....hospitable....you decide. A birthday and anniversary were on our shopping list and malt was the order of the day. Suffice to say this experience left us feeling a bit undervalued...so we drove on and enjoyed Deanston in Doune instead. No yellow lines here for non tour customers and a fine coffee bothy to relax whilst deciding on our purchases.

Thank you very much for the feedback from your recent experience at Glengoyne. I'm very sorry that you were unable to park at the distillery. I think there must have been some miscommunication as visitors to Glengoyne are more than welcome to park regardless of whether they are doing a tour or not. We have lots of visitors to the distillery who only come to visit the shop. Unfortunately we do get a lot of people using our car park who do not intend to visit Glengoyne. They park their cars and head off walking in the surrounding hills for long periods of time which often results in our car park being full so our guests are then unable to park. It's a difficult one for us as we would love to be able to provide parking for everyone so they can enjoy Glengoyne and its beautiful surroundings but we have to limit parking to guests of Glengoyne only. I appreciate that this was not what you were doing when you came to Glengoyne but I can only assume that our guide mistakenly thought you were not wanting to visit Glengoyne and for that we are very sorry.

With time to kill and rain threatening on the short leg between Drymen and Balmaha, I took the short signposted detour across the field from the West Highland Way to check out the times and cost of the distillery tour.

Conveniently run on the hour with different tasting tours on offer, this proved a worthwhile, interesting and informative first trip round a whisky distillery. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, the guide knowledgeable, and despite my dislike of it, I even drank the 12 year old single malt provided as a taster.

Definitely a pleasant and interesting hour to learn about the processes involved and good value for money, even more so for those who like to drink the spirit as the taster actually reduces the real cost of the admission charge for them.

This was an excellent tour, very informative and our guide,Kathy, was filled with enthusiasm and had a great sense of humour. We opted for the chocolate and whiskey tasting experience which was thoroughly enjoyable and was in a pleasant lounge set aside for the purpose. We had plenty of time to enjoy the tasting experience and to discover how well the two mixed.

Lovely distillery with very knowledgable staff who are obviously passionate about what they do. The tea pot dram is a must to try.

Very informative , and light hearted tour, not at all pretentious , and definitely converted me to ' air dried barley' made whiskey, which actually has all the bite of whiskey without the 'earthy' taste that most have and has put me off in the past. Made full use of the £5 off vouchers in the shop and sorted out a couple of Xmas presents , especially for myself!
Learnt lots about whiskey making and was transported to a simpler way of life , as they go, unhurriedly about their careful business , nurturing a truly lovely whiskey! A great trip out, just get the number 10 from stance 34 at Buchannon bus station takes an hour through some nice countryside and stops right outside the gates!
