Really enjoyed the restaurant class atmosphere and good food choices. However the rooms were tiny and the bathroom needed updating.Loved the location of the hotel. Merchant city is very enjoyable.
Brunswick was not my cup of tea.

I really wanted to give this place a better rating as the people that work there are nice, and SEEM to try..... But the reality is that management is seriously lacking. It could be cleaner, that's for sure. I stayed for a few nights and my room went uncleaned for two of them, no fresh towels, bed unmade. Breakfast was nothing more than toast, sliced ham, tomatoes and cereal, the MOST basic of continental breakfasts. Very poor ventilation in the room, window only opened a few inches.

Bar staff was nice and friendly.... I think they derive much of their revenue from the bar/restaurant at the expense of the hotel.

We picked this hotel on its city centre location, which is very handy. We were a group of 12 looking for a bed for the night. The rooms are basic but clean, we booked the apartment and 3 rooms on 4th floor and everyone was happy enough with their rooms & bathrooms. The corridors are decorated in very dark colours and are very tatty could definitely do with a refub as it is more house of horrors than funky decor! The staff were friendly and continental breakfast was fine. Not sure I would stay there again but for a group of girls going out in Glasgow and wanting a central location it did the job.

I'll start with the good points about this hotel, it is VERY central 5-10min walk to buchanan street, close to both rail stations and George Square. Bar/cafe attached offers good food and drinks and initially a friendly atmosphere. Rooms are clean. And that's about all I can say for the positives. For £85 a night the hotel is VERY shabby.
Check-in - Met and dealt with quickly and efficiently, offered a free whisky in the bar which was a nice touch, however we had to ask which room we were in to which the response was 'I wrote that on your card if you would look at it'.... Not impressed. We were not told about check-out times, when breakfast was going to served etc We can down on the sunday morning at 10:30 so be told Breakfast was served 7-10am, we went to reception to ask if they could do anything as we were not told and there was no information in the rooms, we were told rather rudely by the same lady who checked us in 'breakfast is between 7 and 10am and if you didnt know you should have called down to ask', after some incredulous looks from us and a little arguing we did eventually get offered breakfast free of charge. In the end yes it was good that we were offered breakfast but it was grudgingly given.
Rooms/Facilities - The lift only goes up, it doesnt take you down so you have to make your way down a dark stairwell watching out for bumps in the carpet, poorly lit and not very safe;
The room we had was very basic, bed was very low and not particularly comfortable, not all the lighting worked, paint was chipped off the wall, everything was just very tired and in need of some serious tlc;
The bathroom, well what can I say about it, there was no loo roll holder so the roll was placed on top of the small bin, obviously it not been changed or attended to since the last guest as it had been re-rolled and stuffed into the centre to stop it unravelling, bath panel was broken in several places, flooring looked dirty, chipped and water-marked and was lifting in areas, tap in sink dripped, bath/shower requires new grouting (going black) and re-sealing, there was also no extractor fan in here so as soon as the shower was on the room was steamed up.
Staff - I felt like an inconvenience to the reception woman, causing her problems. She was not pleasant. Cafe/bar staff were friendly and engaging however I did notice them making fun of some customers behind their backs, this is NOT professional and VERY offputting. We got out of the place as soon as we could.
Night-time - I was there with my partner and we are in our 20s, we had been out on the saturday night returning to the hotel after a big meal and a couple of drinks to find a very loud party going on in the bar. This was fine and we didn't mind as we assumed it would close at 12 -1am. This is not the case. It was VERY noisy and we were on the 2nd floor! When speaking to the reception in the morning about not having a particularly good sleep due to the noise not just from the bar but also outside we were scoffed at and asked what we expected from a 'city centre hotel?' I have stayed in many city centre hotels in glasgow over the years and not once have I had an issue with noise. These hotels have had later licenced bars than the Brunswick, similar outdoor space and a similar busy vibe however I suspect they have taken more pride in their hotel guests who are paying for a nights sleep and have more concern for their experience.
I would NOT go back to this hotel and would never recommend anyone to stay there unless they enjoy feeling like an inconvience and having a pretty awfull hotel experience whilst paying over the odds.

Stayed at Brunswick Hotel on 17th April and it will be first and last time. Good points first: fantastic location, great use of small space, iron/ironing board/tea & coffee facilities all provided. Now for the bad news: looks very much like a hostel - corridor very dark and dingy and carpet on stairs filthy. Had booked double standard but was sure it was a compact room as it was so small (discovered next day it wasn't when i saw the one next door being cleaned). Windows don't open (even a little) and steamed up very quickly, only mirror at the tea/coffee area. Bathroom very small, shower disgusting - couldn't wait to get out of it, shower curtain is too short and floor got soaked every time it was used. Breakfast was ok - plenty of cereal choice, yogurt, rolls, fresh meat and salad.

You can tell that when first opened with its current design , it would have been stylish ..but it has been left to deteriorate . My room was dirty , the towels thin and smelled of vinegar , sofa had cigarette burns in it , light switch broken . Breakfast like a cheap Russian hotel from the Soviet era
