“Good 10th Floor Room”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 1, 2013

Part of the Premier Inn Group so has you'd expect the rooms are fairly standardised throughout the chain. The Charing Cross Premier is located just to the west of the city centre but a block down from Sauchiehall Street and an easy walk to the shopping area. My room was on the 10th floor overlooking the motorway which runs through Glasgow so there was a bit of traffic noise. The room was very clean, my towels changed daily and the hotel seemed fairly quiet. The hotel is handy for the O2 ABC on Sauchiehall St and the Bon Accord pub which I highly recommend! You know what you get with a Premier Inn, the chain can be a bit soulless but its good value for money and a clean, modern room.

Room Tip: There are 12 floors so ask for a room near the top

I have stayed in the Charing Cross Premier Inn a couple of times. I stayed here in April with my husband. We had a lovely room, dated compared to other premier inns, but clean.

This time we stayed here with our 2 young daughters. We stayed in a room on the tenth floor the first night. The room was damp, smelt foustie, had thick black mould on the wall at the window (which was growing on the curtain too), one of the wall lights beside the bed wasn't working, we couldn't get the heating to work and the glass shelf in the bathroom tilted during the night, waking us when all the contents of it crashed into the sink and the floor (there was only my make-up and a couple of deodorant bottles so it wasn't overloaded). I asked for a change of room the following morning.

The receptionist changed us to a family room on the eighth floor and said she would pass my comments to housekeeping and maintenance (which I hope she did because the room really wasn't up to scratch).

The room we were moved to was fine, we had heating, etc. My daughter found an old keycard under the bed but we handed it in to the reception when we were passing. The receptionist, again, apologised. We had a fine sleep and just before going down for breakfast the next morning, my youngest daughter found a pair of disgusting dirty old socks beside her bed. Obviously the room hadn't been cleaned properly. I handed the socks in upon checking out and the receptionist offered us our money back after everything that had happened.

It was like staying in fawlty towers.

I won't return to this hotel. I have stayed in Premier Inns in many cities and have never had to complain. I have stayed in the George Square Premier Inn and Buchanan Galleries, both are really lovely but Charing Cross?????? They really need to sort their rooms out.

The breakfast was lovely but the queue was ridiculous. For a hotel of that size, they really should have a bigger restaurant.

The staff, I have to mention, were really lovely and polite. Its just a pity the rooms aren't up to standard.

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay with us. We really appreciate your feedback as this enables us to improve standards and provide guests with the best possible service and a comfortable stay. Thank you for telling us about the issues with the bedroom; please be assured these issues were seen to immediately with the Housekeeping and Maintenance Team at the time and we apologise again that this was lead to happen.

I am glad to hear that the Team used our Good Night Guarantee to compensate for what had went wrong, and I hope that this restores your faith in Premier Inn.

Thank you also for your lovely comments regarding our Team, these will be kindly received by them. We hope to welcome you back to one of our hotels in the future.

Stayed for one night for a concert at Hydro, good situation for attending there as only 20 minute walk.
The hotel staff were very friendly and efficient.
There appears to be 3 sizes of room, unfortunately we had a small one. It was certainly the smallest double room I have ever stayed in. At its widest it was approximately 8 foot where the bed was and approximately 6 ft x 6ft beside it. The room was too small to have a bedside cabinet either side of the bed and at its narrowest had only 1ft to get round the corner of the bed. To reach the small hanging bar of the wardrobe you have to lean over the desk unit to reach it. As we booked early only paid £29, however if I had paid more I would have complained.
We were a little disappointed that Costa Coffee was offered all day but when we returned freezing cold after the concert at 10.30pm were told there were no hot drinks on offer at the bar.
Overall OK if you want an over night stop but would be a little small for two staying a weekend in this room

Room Tip: Go for a corner room on a high floor

Thank you for your feedback. At Premier Inn we endeavour to offer the best value quality stay. All feedback both positive and negative is investigated and acted upon to ensure we are offering our customers the best possible standards and service.

Our Premier Inn is a little off model with being an ex-office block therefore our bedroom layouts can be slightly different depending on the room style booked. I apologise if this effected your stay. I am happy to see that your scored us well in service and value for money and should you decide to stay with us again please feel free to call in advance where we can try to allocate you one of our larger rooms, pending our occuplancy levels.

Once again thank you for your review, we look forward to hopefully welcoming you back to Premier Inn on your next visit to Glasgow.

This is our second trip staying in this hotel. It is just across the street from Mitchell Library, which is perfect as we were doing family genealogy. The train station is right outside the front entrance, which is perfect for us as we travel by train to visit family on the outskirts of Glasgow. The breakfast was fantastic as usual, and we ate dinner there upon our arrival. The staff are very kind and helpful if you need anything. We will definitely stay here again in the near future!

Room was fine, what you would expect from a budget hotel. Clean, comfortable bed, quite a small room, but not too small. I was impressed the shower was as good as it was, and we appreciated the plug-in heater.
Arrival was ok, the staff were all looking at their computers intently, it took them a while to look up and smile, but I guess they were busy.
Check out was easy as I'd paid online in advance, staff were friendly on departure.
Overall it was effortless and we got a good nights sleep.

My wife and I have used this hotel a number of times and it seems to get better each and every visit. Reception staff are patient, professional and helpful. The rooms are varied in size, but all to a very good standard, so even our smallish room this time was not an issue - you go to Glasgow to be out, not in!

It was very quiet overnight despite the M8 being not far away. Breakfast was excellent, great choice, fresh and appetising.

The car parking in the multi-storey next door worked well and reception even worked out whether the flat £12 for 24 hours was the best option given that Sunday is £2.50 all day and we had only spilled into Monday by a few hours. In the end the 24 hour option worked well and was good value to have the car securely parked off-street.

Well done to everyone at Premier Inn Charing Cross - a flagship of Premier Inn service and standards

Room Tip: We like to ask for a high room to put some distance between yourself and the very busy motorway near...
