“Great Place to stay”
Reviewed November 10, 2013

I stayed last week in this hotel and had a room on the 7th floor with views over Glasgow. It was a good experience, the staff, young, friendly and helpful. Room was clean and comfortable and it is ideally situated right next to Charing Cross Station for a quick (2 minute ride9 into the City Centre, Queen Street Station. £ 1.50 off peak return. Buses to the north west run past on Bath Street and one street up, Sauchihall St. the buses run into the centre. Ideally situated right next to the motorway and also for parking.
With Premier Inns in my 20 year experience, you get what you pay for and a guaranteed good nights sleep.
The downside is, that if coming from Glasgow Airport on the express bus, you are dropped off quite a way down from the hotel and the walk up Pitt Street is quite steep and tiring with baggage. On my return I took a taxi to the airport and it cost £19.80 one way. Worth it.
I ate in the Thyme restaurant within the hotel. the full breakfast is very heavy on the fat, fried sausage, bacon, hash browns, tomato and mushrooms plus a fried egg or as an alternative scrambled egg. Otherwise the Light breakfast was excellent, especially the freshly made porridge. In the evening, most menus seemed to be served with french fries but the food is freshly cooked and value but certainly not to eat for nights at a time. There are hundreds of eateries in the area so the choice is great.

Great location right at charing cross low level train station, one stop from queens street station. The staff were very pleasant and helpful and the room reasonably sized set on a corner so two large windows and a great view over the city rooftops. As I had read reviews here I phoned the hotel prior to arriving to ask for one of the larger rooms and we were happy with the room we were allocated. TV, hairdryer and a plug in heater in the room and a lovely deep bath with piping hot water and plenty of towels. There were tea/coffee making facilities in the room and the beds were reasonably comfortable. I would definitely go back to this hotel as it is a few minutes walk from King Tuts and great value for money.

Room Tip: I phoned beforehand to ask for one of the larger rooms, so worth a try. The corner room was quite a...

The cleanliness of this establishment goes without question.but the almost robotic manner of the reception staff tends to alienate you somewhat.
there is a lack of 'Meet and Greet' they seem more happy talking amongst themselves.pity the lounge and bar closes in the afternoon sat forever waiting for it to open.this hotel is more a product of industry rather than pleasantry!

Location is great if you are arriving by car, literlally minutes off the motorway and walking distance to the centre, the westend and the SECC. Parking at the nextdoor carpark is cheap and convenient, i arrived at 7pm and left the following lunch time and it only cost £6.80. The only downside is that the entrance feels like its down a bit of an allyway

The room was clean and comfortable, if a little small, i thought perhaps it was a room originaly intended to be a single room as from the look of the floor plan there are 3 different size rooms and i was in the smallest and it looked like the furniture had been custom built to fit the small space so there was not much room for clothes. On the plus side the room had an amazing view of the Mitchel Library which looked stunning lit up at night.

Overall I would recomend this hotel as a cheap hasle free place to stay in glasgow, for the money i think you are unliekly to do do better

Maybe a little biased as stayed in some other PIs and got more bang for my buck. Booked short notice so didn't get the best price and so review maybe reflects that - if I'd paid less I'd have given another 1 on rating.
Room a little on the cosy side although speaking to other residents apparently I was just unlucky (or uninformed) - will know better next time.
Will definitely return as there were good points. Breakfast was great if a little hectic - timing maybe an issue here. Comfortable bed so good sleep. Lot of noise from other residents, but not PIs fault.
Staff were helpful and efficient but not overly welcoming - they were busy tho so fairy nuff.

Room Tip: Make friends with reception for better room.

Nice feeling bed and good noise blocking from the outside traffic, bathroom was nice as well. Only problem was that noise from other rooms came through quite loudly. But overall for the price I paid for my room I was very satisfied.

Check-in was easy and fast ( might be due to previously booked a few months earlier). Receptionist was very pleasant and helpful.
Room was basic but very comfortable as was the bed. As a male I travel with a functional amount of clothing which is OK as the wardrobe space is very limited, especially for a female if they have a lot of clothes with them.
Breakfast was very good, with a wide variety of food on offer and it was buffet style so that you could eat as much as you liked, especially pertinent if you are on a budget and were sightseeing. The breakfast staff we helpful and very pleasant.
Dinner menu was average. The fish and chips consisted of a Thai fish according to our server and turned out to be quite nice. Chicken curry was pleasant enough. Sirloin steak was OK but the Rump steak was not very nice, full of sinew and gristle and very difficult to cut and chew, avoid this. Serving staff very pleasant.
Look out for the "Meal Deal" on the menu, this is a real saver and when I was there I noticed a sign that "kids eat for free".
Location is not a problem as this hotel is 600 mtrs from the city centre, and if you don't feel like walking, the tube station in twenty mtrs away almost attached to the hotel. Fares a very reasonable and take you to Queen Street Station where you can either get a train to Edinburgh or elsewhere or go walkabout as you are in the centre of the city it was cheap and only took five minutes. A taxi from the "St Enoch Centre" to the hotel only cost me £5 and that was including a tip. Well worth it if you've already walked too much.
Overall I will go back to this hotel.

Room Tip: Look out for the meal deals and "kids eat for free". Use the tube to the city centre, it t...
