Bought an Itison deal to be used by 31 Jan. Due to unforeseen circumstances we couldn't use it by then, but the hotel were very helpful and extended the deal til the end of February.
Parked up in the thistle car park (£6.00 - as long as you show your hotel receipt) and was only a 5 minute walk from the hotel. The entrance is a couple of doors down from the side entrance of central station on Union Street, so very central! Locked outer doors but a phone number to call and they gave us the entry code. Lift to the 6th floor which is the hotel! Lovely friendly receptionist who was also on duty in the kitchen the following morning. Small room but well decorated, VERY clean, pristine white bedding and towels. Tea bags, ground coffee and cafetiere, and fresh milk available 24 hrs from reception. Also still and sparkling water, and a tube of smarties! Receptionist also advised they would supply hairdryers, straighteners, iron and board etc all on request. Very comfy bed, spotlessly clean bathroom with double shower.
Easy access back in to the hotel at any time, cos of the code for the door. Was a friday night but we didn't experience any disturbance either from other guests or outside noise at any time. BUT the fire alarm going off at 5 in the morning was a rude awakening, and traipsing down 6 floors cos the lifts couldn't be used during a 'fire' seemed to take forever! However, everyone was pretty good about it, and in no way the Hotel's fault. Evacuation was prompt and orderly, and we were back inside within about 10 to 15 mins. Never found out why it went off, but hey, would rather be safe than sorry!
Breakfast was informal, a couple of trays of sausages and bacon, and a dish of scrambled egg, hard boiled eggs...fresh crusty bread, jams, fruit, some cheese, berries and yoghurts. Only downside was the pre cooked sausages, eggs and bacon were cold, despite being covered with foil and on a warming plate. However, the girls were more than happy to cook you poached or fried eggs if you preferred.
Apparently they have just got their liquor licence so intend to have a couple of chillers at reception with wines and beers etc for purchase, so you can sit with friends in 'the kitchen' or take back to your room.
All in all, a great choice if you want a night out in Glasgow, and great value even at normal rates. Wouldn't hesitate to book again.
