“Character, quality and value in a superb city centre location”
Reviewed April 30, 2013

It's a rare feat for a hotel chain to pull off the cosy hospitality of a bed and breakfast, but that's exactly what Abode have managed here. From the outset of my 3 night stay staff were friendly, helpful and accommodating, my pre-booking enquiry about cycle storage revealing, without quibble or deliberation, that I would be permitted to keep the bike in my room. As a cyclist, that's a big plus right there. Although my room wasn't ready for me on my arrival (understandably as I arrived pretty early), my luggage was stored for collection later. Helpful and much appreciated, and this was typical of the staff's impressive approach to customer service throughout my stay; never anything short of polite, courteous and friendly, and deploying an apparently genuine interest in my activities whilst in Glasgow.

The hotel building itself, once the family home of 20th century British Prime Minister Henry Campbell-Bannerman, is a quirky building rich in character and charm, retaining many of its original features. My room (118) was a large room overlooking Bath Street. Some of this hotel's more critical reviews cite noise as an issue, and whilst there was undoubtedly noise from car and pedestrian traffic outside, this is hardly surprising in a city centre location. Wireless internet was available, occasionally a little erratic, but free of charge. Breakfast was high quality, the full Scottish both tasty and supremely filling. If I were to try and identify any negatives about my stay, I'd have to actively search for them, and they'd likely be minor things or matters of personal choice. Nothing obvious, or immediate, comes to mind...my experience at the Abode was overwhelmingly positive, and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a base to explore the city.

Situated in the heart of Glasgow and close to all shops, bars etc.everything else is a negative I'm afraid. We turned down the first room due to the strong smell of cigarettes. The second room was certainly odour free but small, needing an upgrade and the bathroom was terrible.
We won't be returning to this hotel. We had a deal for one night but we feel it still wasn't worth the money.
Worth saying that on checkout we had been charged £15 to our bill for ???? We pointed this out at the desk and it was removed from our bill only to be later added to our credit card!!!!!

Stayed here for one night on a bed and breakfast option. Great location near shops and restaurants. Stayed on ground floor. Quiet, clean room and comfy bed. Upgraded for free. Hotel staff first class and breakfast superb. 25% discount given for multi-storey car park. Would stay again.

Got a good deal on Laterooms for here - centrally located and makes a change to stay somewhere a little stylish.

Room on the ground floor was fine - good shower / comfy beds and breakfast good with tast choice.

All in all a good hotel with just a few things to look out for. If you do get given one of the rooms which are right next to the air conditioning units and vents (& facing a brick wall), then that room is rather noisy and pretty terrible. Luckily, the staff are very helpful & friendly. They happily moved us into a much better room which was a lot quieter. Secondly, the traditional old lift, although it gives the hallway character & is visually impressive, it is functionally useless. Never worked for us & constantly had to use the stairs. Carried our luggage up and down the stairs on check in & out (though staff did offer). Otherwise it was a nice place to stay & it's location was very convenient, being so close to Buchanan St, yet much quieter than the surrounding city streets. There's a parking station is directly opposite the hotel & you get a slight discount from staying here. Didn't try the breakfast so can't comment. If they can find a way to get their lift to work more reliably that would be a big plus for them.

This Hotel is not fullfilling its potential. It is a great building and a great location but has not atmosphere. The staff are very helpful and very hard-working but the bar and resturant were empty in the evening.
The room we had was very small and despite having the windows open all the time it was very hot indeed - too hot to sleep in fact.
The lift, although majestic, is a complete nuisance as people don't close the gate and it is often stranded a few floors up.

Room Tip: Ask for a front room.

The main plus to this hotel is that it is in the heart of Glasgow and parking is a two minute walk away.
The photos on the net make the hotel look a 5 star but i'm afraid is only average and not value for money. The room my partner and I had was very small and only fit for purpose. The hotel is very clean and the breakfast was good but I'd go back purely for it's central location.
I've stayed in other hotels in Glasgow and i'm afraid this was over priced!!
