“Great service, friendly staff, excellent location.”
Reviewed August 20, 2012

Stayed here for 1 night, great central location, very close to train stations and shopping streets. Our room was lovely, huge bed. Noticed a few people had been disappointed with the view - you can't expect much from a city centre hotel! After using the bath we noticed flooding around the bathroom door, carpets totally saturated. When we informed reception, the girl was very apologetic and immediately changed our room, even offering to move our things for us as we were on our way out. When we got back, we'd been upgraded to a bedroom with separate living room - great touch. We ordered room service breakfast for 9.30am, however by 10am it had not arrived, after a quick phone call it arrived very promptly and again, the girl was very apologetic (we put it down to the room swap mixing things up). As we checked out, again the receptionist apologised for the issues and we received the breakfast free of charge.

Room Tip: We stayed on 7th floor which was very hot at night but fans are available from reception.

Thank you for your feedback regarding your stay at the Mercure Glasgow City hotel.
I was sorry to learn of the problems encountered in the bathroom, the problem was eventually traced to a leaking overflow. I am very sorry about this. I was pleased we were able to sort this out by moving you to a new room.

Thanks again for your comments

Kind regards

stayed here recently for 1 night on a room only basis. clean room and comfortable bed. as weather was warm i slept with window open and as room was on 3rd floor at the back of hotel i heard nothing of the traffic on the street. ideally situated for city centre shopping and both bus and train stations. 5 mins walk to george square where there are 2 wetherspoon restaurants which offer great deals for meals and very nice they are too. would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: ask for quiet room when booking

Initial checkin at reception a few hiccups given prepaid ACCOR Reservation showed room as unpaid. Receptionist staff very quick & helpful in sorting out issue & reallocated us a room (Level 7 initially was to be on Level 2 to laneway) when I requested quiet room away from lane & any noise given our late checkin we had noticed the nightclub & casino next door. Room was very quiet luckily as had to have window open throughout stay as a bit warm & stuffy. Room had all the basics although not quite upto the same Mercure standard Ive come to expect. Understandable though in older central city hotels, the friendly service made up for room short falls. Safe broken & our room not very clean, dust & hair also soap bar still stuck to side of bath from previous guests & remained there for our 2 night stay! I raised this & reception on our checkout & said would address with cleaning staff. This like other Mercure rebranding of hotel franchises we stayed at in UK was previously a Ramada, more toilettries need to be provided as per standard Mercure hotels. I suspect with time these minor matters will get addressed. Beds only Double but guess a queen size wouldnt fit. No where to put suitcase, no luggage stand provided but instead an ironing press taking up valuable space. Breakfast deal good value however food quality & range very lacking for Mercure branded hotel. Free wifi in bar lobby & its central location with great reception & bar staff & well as ACCOR members promo rate made this hotel still very good value for money. GBP6 for parking in CBD overnight with stay also excellent as what city hotel doesnt charge, good value enjoyable stay had.

Thank you very much for your feedback regarding your stay with us.
I was very glad that we were able to overcome the initial issues with the reservation on arrival and that you enjoyed your stay overall.
We have now managed to rectify the issue with the in room safe, I can only apologise for this, that we weren't able to overcome this at the time.
Poor standards of housekeeping are not acceptable. Please be assured that very direct action has been taken to ensure standards of cleanliness are kept at our normal high levels.
Thanks again for your comments, I do hope that we have the pleasure of looking after you again in the future.

Nicely located for proximity to both main rail stations and amenities nearby. Front reception was very welcoming, clean and fresh. Room was a bit warm and on the small side, but quiet enough for a city centre location.

Room Tip: If you're not happy with the room you get, ask for an alternative.

What a welcome! The young lady on the desk welcomed us so well and quickly followed that up by getting a beer for me. After a long journey, it was very welcome. The dinner in the evening was excellent as was breakfast. Central location, went to a very nice bar next door for a beer and a few games of cards. Room decent size for a one night stay, clean and well kept. Thanks to all the team

What to say – it was somewhere to sleep and the price was right. A basic, small and grim hotel room with an adequate though not comfortable bed, a refurbished and clean but slightly strange bathroom and a professional front desk staff. Do not go with the bed and breakfast option - breakfast was truly awful. Very pleased it had an in-room safe but the safe is located ery poorly as you pretty much have to lay on the floor to use it.

Supposed to be having a weekend in Edinburgh but it being the the 1st weekend of August and the fringe starting the cost of flights & hotels were outrageous even when booking last May. Solution, stay in Glasgow & catch the train through. Picked the Mercure for it's very central position and also I had stayed there with work 12 years before when it was The Ingram. Much improved since then I have to say. Downsides included the temperature in the room. We were on the 7th floor with no heating on anywhere and the room was more than warm even with the window open. Only other downside is that it is next door to a casino that is open until 6am. No bother through the night but a little bit too much noise at chucking out time.
That said this is a great spot to stay to see Glasgow & being 5 minutes from Queen St. station, well placed to catch the train through to Edinburgh. Our early booking secured us a double room for £108 over two nights, £49 one night & £59 the next = bargain. This did not include breakfast though. It comes in at £10 a head. We instead went to one of the nearby Wetherspoons (see review elsewhere). The staff were very friendly, the rooms were modern & clean & all in all a great find bang in the centre of town.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that is not on the casino side!

Dear Guest,
Thank you for your feedback regarding your stay with us.
The hotel does have an excellent location and is very well situated for exploring Glasgow. Edinburgh is a mere 50 minute journey on the train which bodes well for exploring both cities.
We do not have air conditioning installed in the bedrooms, most of the time, the weather in Scotland does not warrant it. However, we can provide fans if necessary.
I do hope that you will return to stay at the Mercure Glasgow City, when perhaps you would like to sample the breakfast buffet. We have recently updated the breakfast offer with a wide range of choices available.
Thanks again
