Booked a few weeks in advance for £48, if I had paid the full price I may not have been quite as happy. The hotel is what it is, a fairly ok 3 star, I appreciate the efforts made with the tartan themed rooms, which I suppose would make overseas visitors feel they are getting a good 'Scottish' experience. However perhaps if the cost of the vast mounts of tartan in the room had been instead been used to attend to small details such as the toilet flush handle being replaced with a chrome one instead of a cheap flimsy white plastic one or if the public toilet type toilet tissue dispenser were replaced with a toilet roller holder, it may lead to return custom ... As for the mattresses & pillows, it's time to replace both. The mattress was such a cheap one that when you sat on the edge, you could feel the divan base & i did not actually think lumpy foam pillows existed anymore. Neither of us slept very well, despite there being no noise whatsoever from either other guests or traffic etc.
Our room (101) smelt slightly of urine but I could also smell it by the lift & in the corridor leading to the room, I think air freshner had been liberally sprayed but this made it worse as to me it smelt like a public loo. We did tell the receptionist about it & she offered us room 106 but unfortunately the restaurant extractor was below the room.
We had breakfast & I have to say this was the saving grace for the Argyll, if the had not been so fresh, plentiful & tasty we would give this hotel a poor rating.
The area is not bad & you could easily get to the west end and other great locations.
Both my OH & I got our hair cut round the corner in Argyll St at a very funky salon (Cusp) who do standbys. Lucky for us when we arrived at 2pm the receptionist told us check was from 3pm (it's actually 2pm) so we wandered round the corner & found Cusp...
There are great places to eat just up the rd & it fairly centrally located., just not sure it's a 3 star, more of a 2 star, less tartan & more finishing touches may be the answer for the Argyll
