“Homely, friendly with excellent food.”
Reviewed May 11, 2013

Using trip advisor the Black Sheep was the choice for a family meal. A small clean bistro with a nice atmosphere music in the background but not loud. A very friendly greeting on arrival from the staff who throughout the meal made you feel welcome. Bottles of tap water on the table always for me a nice touch. There was 7 of us ordering from fish and chips through to a lamb shank. The menu was varied with easily something for everyone. All of us commented on how good their dish was no complaints just compliments. Unfortunately we could not have a sweet because post afternoon meal we where returning home to eat a birthday cake.
It was obvious when the sweets where brought out for other diners that we had missed out. The sweets looked amazing a lot of thought, effort and creativity I was really disappointed we had to give them a miss.
I will definitely be returning but next time sampling their wine and sweets. Excellent hidden gem.

“Another fab meal at the Bistro”
Reviewed May 11, 2013

This was our 3rd visit to the Bistro. Food, ambiance and service absolutely fantastic. There were six of us. Two lentil soup, great, mushroom with ham and parmesan which my brother said was so tasteful, black pudding and totty scone lovely cauliflower soup, lovely, prawn cocktail big portion and again Fab. For mains two steak pie which two of us thoroughly enjoyed, braised bee which apparently just melted in mouth, pork belly stuffed with ham and cheese and balmoral chicken which was the only dish that got a bit of criticism cause haggis not spicy enough but that personal taste. You dont need to say anything about the amazing puddings except make sure you leave room for them!! Be back again soon. Many thanks.

“Fantastic food and service”
Reviewed May 8, 2013

We had a wonderful meal following our wedding on 12 April. We were a small party of just 7 and the restaurant opened up early just for us following our ceremony at 3.30 which was very kind of them. It's a small, cosy, family run restaurant and the food and service was just brilliant. Two of our guests were elderly and were well catered for with smaller portions of steak pie and macaroni cheese which they both thoroughly enjoyed, while the more adventurous of us enjoyed the varied menu and the portions were more than adequate. I personally would recommend the scallops, the lamb and the meringue and puff candy ice cream. We were able to order bottles of our desired sparkly beforehand and everything was ready on our arrival. Thank you so much for contributing to our special happy day.
