Owner description: Self-guided walking tour maps are available from George Square Tourist Office of Merchant City, now a vibrant historic cafe quarter and designer-shopping mecca. Highlights of this tour, which dates back to medieval times, include the grand neo-classical halls and Georgian townhouses built for Glasgow's rich tobacco barons and shipping merchants.

Great choice of places to eat and drink to suit all tastes and pockets. Great priced lunch and early evening meal prices. Hardest thing is deciding which restaurant to eat in.

A really nice part of the city. Old buildings thoughtfully refurbished and well used. Generally feels a really upmarket part of the city. Take plenty cash if you intend to go shopping here though !

The choice of restaurants is reasonable - with most offering seating outside (but still under cover) as well as inside. The downside is that with quite a number of different restaurants and bars all concentrated in a small area it can be very noisy - so if you want to enjoy a conversation with your friends then this is not the place to be.

Much more funky than the rest of the city with an amazing variety of places to eat and drink and things to do, well worth a safe night out.

We have recently eaten at Berrits and Brown and the City Merchant and would recommend both highly. We had a night out to remember at O'Neils on a Saturday night- it was busy, fun, great band. Very near to Glasgow's main shops and loads of good eateries at all price ranges.
