We booked this one night stay very last minute and were delighted to get the opportunity to visit Glasgow and stay at this particular hotel as we had stayed here several times in the past.
The booking was made on the internet and our party was listed as four adults on this particular last minute / late availability site we used. We were actually a family of four - mum, dad and a twenty plus a teen. The room we booked was a Deluxe Family room. No other details were provided other than it slept 4 adults. When we arrived we were seen quite promptly however our booking could not be tracked and as the young lady tried to solve the problem her supervisor gave her advice which failed to help. Eventually he took over as the crowd built up and it was very busy in the reception area.
It appeared that there was no booking "put through" for us although we were told that it was "there"! I knew that the thought of a family deluxe room was slipping from our grasp and I was correct! The supervisor explained that a family deluxe was not available and then added it would not be suitable as it consists of a double and a sofa bed. He then allocated us neighbouring rooms on the fourth floor . Rooms 405 and 407.Not deluxe!
On arriving at our rooms it was not good to see a used empty wine glass and tumbler on the floor at the door of room 407. On entering this room it was very disappointing to see that on the attic sloping ceiling which occupies 2/3 of the outside wall there was a large brown patch from some kind of leak! It must have been more that 30cm and very obvious. The towel rail in the bathroom was also very loose and although that sounds like a silly moan it quite clearly had been loose for sometime as there was a dusting of plaster dust on the floor. Room 405 was fine and much more pleasant for our younger family members. The information for visitors to the hotel and Glasgow was outstanding in quality and variety.
We did not complain as we were only in Glasgow for an evening and had to be somewhere promptly. Our focus was on our plans within Glasgow such as eating out, cinema etc. and we just wanted to get on with our plans.
Breakfast was absolutely brilliant! Staff amazing, welcoming and so friendly. The food was very fresh and a great variety with absolutely everything you would expect to find from a top standard hotel.
The hotel is simply renovated and it is good to see the preservation of many of the characteristics. More work continues and I hope that further investment improves experiences, such as my families.
