My 3rd stay here for business. The location is great right on Grand Central Station so ideal if you are using the rail network to get around. Good value with very comfortable, spacious rooms. A shame there is no air-conditioning as my room on this occasion was very hot and although the windows open a fraction it was not enough to make a difference. In fairness to the hotel as I was out for so much of the time I did not request to move rooms. The service has always been excellent here so I'm sure they would have assisted had I made them aware.

This has become my hotel of choice in Glasgow. The location cannot be beaten. The rooms are large, with good amenities, high-ceilings and very comfortable beds, Breakfast is outstanding, fantastic service and selection. This hotel is part of the same chain (Principal Hayley) as the Royal York, where I also stayed on this UK trip. The York manager should visit Glasgow and learn from them--for example, loads of fresh fruit at breakfast, nicely furnished rooms, friendly staff. Special thanks to the helpful concierge staff: Graham and his dad (whose name I didn't find out).

The only drawback on this trip was that our room was quite stuffy due to the heatwave and limited expanse on window opening. That said, will definitely return--it's not always that hot in Glasgow!!

Room Tip: Station-facing rooms can get noisy.

Your train nearly takes you to your room, as this big old grand hotel is attached to the central station! It's neatly placed for tourist and business sites, too, with a number of good restaurants nearby. We don't know why Scottish hotel windows won't open, a big disadvantage during the rare heat wave, which we experienced. Certainly there's no AC! The breakfasts are adequate if unimaginative, but could be so much better. I can't imagine any of the celebrities they brag about choking down their awful coffee or greasy fried foods, but maybe that's typical for Scotland. We were disappointed. They did bring fans for our room, and that helped, but it was nonetheless quite hot.
The room was nice, and the bath quite lovely.

I stayed in the hotel for a conference, that was also being held at the hotel.
The conference room was beautiful. It was recently refurbished and looked spectacular. The sound, projection screen etc. was working, there was a technical team nearby. Everything ran smooth.
The room was large and relatively quiet. I had a bit of background noise from the street but that didn't keep me awake. The bathroom was quite large and had a good working shower/bath.
The breakfast was very good. If anything was missing or had to be refilled, just a quick word with someone there and they would tend to it immediately. The breakfast area was rather small for such a big hotel but I never had to wait.

Room Tip: Some rooms look out into the train station. I heard from some colleagues they heard trains being ann...

Decided to try this hotel as we had heard some good reviews. First problem was that there is no car park on site so had to park in Oswald street car park and carry suitcase all way to hotel on very hot day. Reception staff very helpful and welcoming. The bedroom was lovely - double executive - but very warm. Requested a fan and albeit told Victorian building with no air conditioning we did get a fan delivered to room. Lovely bed, large bathroom but no view. Disappointed in champagne bar. Very loud music which was turned down on request. It's the only place to sit with a drink and relax that we could find in the hotel so due to noise not conducive to talking or reading or relaxing. Breakfast was a disaster. There was a wedding party in the restaurant. Very noisy and taking up lots of space. Staff looked stressed out. Had to request tea and no one cleared table. Food however was very good. The breakfast experience was not relaxing and we spoke to the restaurant staff and reception about this on check out. On balance will probably not return.

After receiving a voucher for the ‘Romance Package’ at The Grand Central, we decided to use the voucher for my wife’s birthday.

We arrived at the hotel, the reception was quite busy, but we only waited around 5 minutes to check in. We were greeted by the receptionist, we confirmed all the necessary formalities. The time for Breakfast or Check-out was not confirmed to us to which we had to ask.

We made our way to our room (110), we entered the room to a wall of heat (Glasgow has been experiencing a heat wave), the window were open. Quickly we realised our room was directly over Glasgow Central Station, we realised this by the volume of noise coming from the station. We returned back to the room around 11pm to the same wall of heat (no air-conditioning in the rooms), we tried to settle for the night but the constant announcements of train departures made this very difficult. This stopped around Midnight. To our horror and agitation bang on 7am the announcements were blaring in our room again. This really spoilt our an entire experience at The Grand Central to the point I would mostly likely stay elsewhere in future.

The Rooms were of a average standard.

What have I gained from my stay? Well, I now know every train that departs Glasgow Central Station.

Will I be back? No. I have stayed in much better hotels in Glasgow.

A birthday over night, very much spoilt.

We stayed at the Grand Central to celebrate my brother-in-laws birthday, we stayed here 2 years ago and thought the hotel which had then been recently refurbished to be very acceptable for virtually all the right reasons! Location/Cleanliness/Facilities, sadly it lacks any sort of pool/gym.
We have to say that the staff are all friendly and polite and on most occasions very helpful.
Our room was clean and contemporary of a decent size, the bed was firm but comfortable.
Our bathroom had a few problems, the bath was chipped, grouting was dirty but most noticeable was the lack of grouting to the floor tiles, you could actually stand a pound coin on end between the tiles! There had also been a leak from the bathroom above.
The fly in the ointment was the bill when finally checking out. We had allowed our card to remain open for any bar or restaurant bills to be charged to our room if we needed it, they had after we had retired for the evening. When we asked for the copies of the receipts there were none!!!! it was only £25, however, if this happens most times it would be a considerable amount of money. It was of course removed from our account immediately, but what if we had not checked!!!
Nice hotel but you need to be careful of possible over charging.
