“Tripple distilled nectar”
Reviewed September 5, 2013

A superb visit for anyone interested in the very best of Scotish spirit. The tour is splendid and will leave you mesmerised at the effort to produce this ambrosia. Triple distillation is the key to this distilleries uniqueness--- the prices are reasonable when one considers the effort to make the product. Although the £6000 price tag on some exhibited bottles proved too much.
The super guide and the tasting area were a credit to the distillery.
Well worth a visit.

“Interesting tour, great samples”
Reviewed July 24, 2013

Not the first distillery we have visited, but one of the best. They were not in production when we went, but the tour was no less interesting. A very warm welcome at reception set the tone, and our guide was clearly very well informed in all aspects of the production stages (and aware that some of the guests would have been on similar tours). More especially, her enthusiasm for the whiskey itself, with detailed descriptions of nose and taste were interesting. It was good how we were given a small taste as we learned of the aging process, putting into context the individual flavours the casks provide. A dram of the 12 year old, and a taste of the cream liqueur, at the end ensured a great finale. This is a classy distillery and a pleasure to visit. Highly recommended if you have an interest in whiskey, or are open to developing one!

“Great Distillery and Excellent Tour (try the wash sample)”
Reviewed July 10, 2013

We visited several distilleries in Scotland in June 2013. Auchentoshan has been one our favored whiskeys, and we just had to tour the distillery. We are so glad we did.

About the tour: We chose the “wee tasting tour.” The tour was well organized and informative. Our group was just the two of us, so we had our own private tour and the guide was very accommodating. Like all the whiskey tours we were on, the guide walked us through the complete process starting with the barley ending with the barrel rooms (and everything in between). What makes this tour completely unique is the sample of “wash.” Wash is the weakly fermented, beer-like wort that is later distilled. Our sample of wash was warm and reminded us of an earthy wheat beer. Another unique aspect of this distillery is the use of triple distillation. All others use double. At the conclusion of the tour, our guide led us to the tasting room, and we sampled two single malts (10 year and 12 year) and a cream liqueur.

Grounds: The grounds were beautiful and clean. The highland cows were too cute!

Overall vibe: relaxed yet classy.

Tip – This distillery is an easy drive from Glasgow. Consider stopping at the Riverside Transportation Museum on the way.
